FOX's next live musical event, A CHRISTMAS STORY, will air Sunday, Dec. 17 (7:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) LIVE on FOX. Emmy Award nominee Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live,” “Bridesmaids”) will star as the mother of nine-year old “Ralphie Parker.”

As BroadwayWorld just reported, Fox has just announced its next LIVE musical event- A CHRISTMAS STORY, inspired by the holiday classic feature 'A Christmas Story' and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production 'A Christmas Story: The Musical.' The three-hour live television production of A CHRISTMAS STORY will air this December on FOX.

It's like Christmas came early! Fox Broadcasting Company and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television have partnered with award-winning film, television and theater producer Marc Platt (GREASE: LIVE, 'La La Land') on the LIVE musical event A CHRISTMAS STORY, inspired by the holiday classic feature 'A Christmas Story' and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production 'A Christmas Story: The Musical.' The three-hour live television production of A CHRISTMAS STORY will air this December on FOX.

Victoria Theatre Association announces the addition of several titles to the 2017-2018 Projects Unlimited Star Attractions. George Street Playhouse has announced that stage and screen legends Judd Hirsch (TV: Taxi, Superior Donuts; Film: Ordinary People, Independence Day) and Dan Lauria (TV: The Wonder Years, Pitch; Broadway: Lombardi, A Christmas Story) have been cast for a special one-night-only reading of Jeffrey Sweet's play, The Value of Names, on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.

This holiday season, for the first time in Buffalo, the award-winning Broadway hit A Christmas Story, The Musical brings the beloved classic movie to life at Shea's Buffalo Theatre December 13-18, 2016 for eight performances.

This musical is everything a piece of musical theater ought to be. There is a little prologue with the character of Jean Shepherd. We know immediately who is whom and the exact nature of the piece's dramatic crux. Devotees of the movie will find much that is familiar, though there has been some rearrangement, extension, enhancement and addition. Dialogue flows as stage dialogue should: with snappy delivery, different voices and more wit than is common in Real Life. Musical numbers are lively and either reveal character or move the plot. Scene changes are rapid and full of children's holiday pagent-styled elements. Ralphie's home is an adorable cutaway dollhouse. The cast is energetic and charming. This production should satisfy fans of musical theater, fans of the movie, fans of holiday shows, fans of family-friendly entertainment and really anyone who isn't a Grinch or a Scrooge.

All the elements you want to see - the narration by Jean Shepherd, the Major Award, the flagpole (pictured above), the slugfest with Scut Farkas, the dogs in the kitchen, the Chinese dinner, and every repetition of 'You'll shoot your eye out!' are there, none the worse for your expecting them. The new material does no damage to the original components.
