The Glimmerglass Festival, Central New York's opera and musical theater company, has announced its 2016 season.

OPERA San Antonio's Board of Directors and Chairman Mel Weingart today announced the slate for OPERA San Antonio's second season as the Resident Opera Company of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

“Internationally renowned … for her unique combination of exquisite singing and hilarious comic acting” (Vanity Fair), Deborah Voigt turns her talents to operetta next month, when she makes her title role debut in Lehár's The Merry Widow. In a new production from award-winning director Kelly Robinson at Michigan Opera Theatre, the soprano will head a cast that also features Roger Honeywell, Amanda Squitieri, Aaron Blake, and Richard Suart as Baron Mirko Zeta, with Gerald Steichen leading from the pit (tonight, April 11–19).

The audited financial results for San Francisco Opera's 2013–14 season (FY14) were announced today by San Francisco Opera Association President Keith Geeslin: a deficit of $348,244 on an operating budget of $74,119,493. The Company's 91st season presented eight main stage works at the War Memorial Opera House in addition to numerous concerts, recitals, workshops and community engagement events attracting more than 271,954 individuals.

Washington National Opera (WNO) continues its 2014-2015 season with a revival of Richard Wagner's mythical tale of love and redemption on the high seas—The Flying Dutchman, March 7-21 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. This production is the conclusion of WNO's recent look at Wagner's work in anticipation of the company's first complete presentation of the composer's epic four-part Ring cycle next season. Starring American bassbaritone Eric Owens in his staged role debut as The Dutchman, Wagner's powerful early opera is directed by Stephen Lawless and features the WNO Orchestra conducted by WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin and Eric Weimer. Condemned to wander the seas upon a ship of ghosts, The Dutchman can only venture ashore once every seven years to seek his salvation: a woman's unconditional love. When Senta, the beguiling daughter of the sea captain Daland, pledges to be faithful to him forever, it seems the ancient curse might finally be broken. But Erik, her jealous huntsman suitor, poses just one of many obstacles in a tale where greed, fidelity, and misfortune collide in full force. Director Stephen Lawless tells the Dutchman's story with theatrical flair, including a stunning ship of blood-red sails that places the opera's dramatic action in bold relief. The opera is famous for its tempestuous overture, Senta's passionate ballad, and its riveting final scene set atop a stormbattered bluff.

Opera Philadelphia's 41st Season serves as a reminder that the company is, as The Washington Post reports, “taking chances, offering unusual and new work along with repertory staples, and carving out a place for themselves as proponents of American opera.” As General Director & President David B. Through its community collaboration program HGOco, the company will present two additional world premieres: O Columbia, a chamber opera by composer Gregory Spears and librettist Royce Vavrek that examines the past, present, and future of the American spirit of exploration; and another chamber opera, by composer David Hanlon and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann, about the impact of hurricanes on the Texas Gulf coast.

Plácido Domingo, LA Opera's Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, has announced the company's 2015/16 season. This will be the 30th season presented by the company, created by Mr. Domingo in collaboration with Richard Seaver Music Director James Conlon and President and CEOChristopher Koelsch. The company's 30th anniversary season will include six mainstage productions and two concerts at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, with a total of 40 performances taking place in that venue, as well as 13 performances presented elsewhere through the company's Off Grand initiative. A Christmas Carol runs from tonight, December 5 through 21, 2014, at the Wortham Theater Center, and is suitable for ages 12 and up.
