Photo Flash: Jai Rodriguez to Star in IN THE HEIGHTS at SD Rep in August; Cast Announced

San Diego REPertory Theatre (San Diego REP) in partnership with the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) will present "In the Heights" by Quiara Alegria Hudes as the first production of the company's 38th season. The Tony and Grammy Award-winning production was conceived by and with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the San Diego REP production is directed by Sam Woodhouse and starring Jai Rodriguez.

FrostArt Opens Two New Exhibitions About Identity SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATE NATIONS and BORDERS OF PARADISE

FrostArt (The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU) introduces two new exhibitions, both of which feature art as a tool to establish identity: How we see ourselves and how we perceive others, now and in the past. The two exhibitions, Six Degrees of Separate Nations: Ebony G. Patterson and Peterson Kamwathi, and Borders of Paradise: In the Eyes of Explorers, will have an opening reception today, June 8, 2013, at the Frost Art Museum, from 6pm-8pm. The wine and hors d'oeuvres reception is open to the public and free of charge.

San Diego REPertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announces its 37th season that opens with a significant work of Latino drama and continues with six more provocative and eye-opening new American productions. "Our curiosity about the changing world we live in provokes us to look hard and deep for those plays that take us to places we have never been and look at the world through eyes that are not are own," says Sam Woodhouse, co-founder and artistic director, San Diego REP. The search for the productions to be presented during the 2012-2013 season resulted in a collection of seven theatrical events that are about the quest of Americans to become their best selves, individually and together.

SAN DIEGO REPERTORY THEATRE in partnership with THE SAN DIEGO SCHOOL OF CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS (SCPA) is proud to present Southern California's first regional production of the hit musical comedy HAIRSPRAY. For the first time in local theatre history, high school students from SCPA will join professional actors on stage for this big fat, gorgeous musical. Directed by San Diego REP Artistic Director SAM WOODHOUSE with assistance from SCPA's Artistic Director RICHARD TRUJILLO, the REP's presentation of HAIRSPRAY will mark the first time the musical has been produced as a regional theatre production in Southern California. Performances continue through Sunday, August 15, 2010.

San Diego REP Announces Events Surrounding HAIRSPRAY, Opens 7/17

Grab a cocktail and head down to the Lyceum to learn all about the swingin' 60's from the REP's group of extraordinary scholars, artists and unforgettable personalities. San Diego REPertory Theatre will be launching the Southern California regional premiere of the big fat, gorgeous musical HAIRSPRAY with a series of show inspired surround events. Admission is free to those who purchase tickets to selected performances. HAIRSPRAY begins in previews on Saturday, July 17 at 8pm with an Opening Night performance on Friday, July 23 at 8pm and continues through Sunday, August 15, 2010.
