Opera San José invites music lovers from the Bay Area and beyond to its virtual variety show and fundraiser, Sing for Your Supper!  

Opera San José is offering Spanish and Vietnamese subtitles (in addition to English) for its latest virtual production, Love & Secrets: A Domestic Trilogy, welcoming two of San Jose's largest communities to experience this local art.

On the Los Angeles Opera website, tenor Russell Thomas and collaborative pianist Kyung-Mi Kim present a program of song that includes Schumann's song cycle, Dichterliebe (Poet's Love),  Handel's aria “Total Eclipse” from Samson, and love songs by Adolphus Hailstork and Robert Owens that was filmed recently at Spivey Hall in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Romance so often conjures images of affectionate gestures grand and small: flowers, chocolates, initials carved in bark. Opera San José’s latest digital offering, Love & Secrets: A Domestic Trilogy, explores what happens below the surface, with three tales of passion and yearning, as couples contend with the tumult, joys, and heartache of love. 

Opera San José has announced the extension of its stream of Three Decembers, by popular demand. World-renowned mezzo-soprano Susan Graham leads the cast of Opera San José’s first fully-staged digital production, Jake Heggie’s THREE DECEMBERS, based on Tony Award winning playwright Terrence McNally’s unpublished play “Some Christmas Letters”.

In keeping with Opera San José's mission to expand accessibility to its work, the company has announced that through the support of generous donors it is able to extend access to its hit virtual production of Jake Heggie's chamber opera, Three Decembers, now making it available on a pay-what-you-can basis for streaming on demand.

Due to the overwhelming demand this holiday season, Opera San José is extending the run of the hit virtual production of Jake Heggie's chamber opera, Three Decembers through January 31, 2021.

This February, Opera San José will highlight the raw emotions that drive Giuseppe Verdi's turbulent tale of love and revenge in its production of Il trovatore. Featuring an emotional, heart-stopping score, this mesmerizing story of romance, obsession, and retribution will be conducted by Joseph Marcheso, Opera San José's Music Director and Principal Conductor, and directed by Brad Dalton, acclaimed for staging major opera productions for San Francisco Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, and many other international companies. It will be presented at the magnificent California Theatre, the elegant 1927 former movie palace meticulously restored to opulent splendor and now one of the world's most intimate opera houses.

Velocity has announced 2019 Next Fest NW, running Dec. 12-15 at Velocity's Founder's Theater. Featuring a bill of brand new works from Pacific Northwest choreographers and dance artists, Next Fest 2019 will feature five new works created in response to this year's theme Ritual and Rebellion.  Covering subjects ranging from Brutalist architecture, corporate sponsorship, queer coming of age and Slavic mythology, Next Fest 2019 is the Pacific Northwest's number one destination for discovering the region's next generation of bold, experimental dance innovators. This year's Next Fest artists are: Lucie Baker, Shane Donohue, Marco Farroni, Vladimir Kremenović, and Hannah Rae.

Never Look Away, the 9th album from Daniel Martin Moore, finds the artist expanding, experimenting, and having fun in the studio.  Co-produced by multi-instrumentalist Seth Kauffman, the recordings are candid, unfussed-over, and full of energy and light.  “Seth is a wonder.  I've admired his work for years, and it was a joy to bring this batch of songs to life with him,” said DMM.  Kauffman is best-known for being the man-behind-the-band Floating Action, playing nearly all of the instruments, producing, recording, and mixing the albums himself.  (In his spare time, he plays on the albums and in the touring bands of Jim James, Ray Lamontagne, and many others.)
