Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at the Providence Performing Arts Center
by Erica Cataldi-Roberts - Feb 7, 2024

Aaron Sorkin’s dramatic adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, pulls no punches, showing how racial injustice and the attitudes and issues related to it are all still relevant to the modern day.

Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Golden Gate Theatre
by Steve Murray - Dec 14, 2023

What did our critic think of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Golden Gate Theatre? That Harper Lee’s 1960 novel of racial prejudice and social justice is just as prescient today is a sad indictment of American culture. Academy award winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and Director Bret Sher (Tony Award winner, South Pacific) have crafted a beautifully staged and wonderfully acted production that has taken the nation by storm and hauntingly illuminates the social rifts as seen through the eyes of three children representing the innocence of youth.

Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts
by Pamela Roberts - Aug 21, 2023

Seeing To Kill a Mockingbird, now at the Kennedy Center, isn’t the same experience as the novel you were quizzed on in high school or the classic 1962 film. Aaron Sorkin’s script and Bartlett Sher’s direction gain heightened context and nuance from the rise in racial violence in the last decade. The national tour with Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch, which visited D.C. in June 2022, is again at the Kennedy Center though August 27.

Review: Sorkin's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Is An Update Fit for the New Banned-Books Era " Dr. Phillips Center
by Aaron Wallace - Mar 23, 2023

Can you kill a mockingbird today without overkilling it? Sixty-three years after Harper Lee's iconic American novel released to instant controversy and enduring acclaim - nary a high schooler gets to cap or gown without an essay on it - this is the challenge confronting playwright Aaron Sorkin. Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Hippodrome Theatre
by Daniel Collins - Mar 16, 2023

What did our critic think of TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD at Hippodrome Theatre? Chances are, if you're a product of the American education system, you read Harper Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, in high school or college. And if you didn't, you've likely seen the 1962 film of the same name featuring Gregory Peck in perhaps his most famed role, lawyer and bastion of decency, Atticus Finch. The plot involving Atticus and his children, Scout and Jem, is in some ways, quite 'straightforward.' Atticus is asked to represent Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. It's deep South, Alabama, 1934. It's not going to end well. However, it's what happens along the way, and afterwards, that makes this novel so worth reading, and this play, so worth watching.

Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD At The Buell Theatre Hurts as Much as it Heals
by Chris Arneson - Jan 30, 2023

Directed by Bartlett Sher, the characters are fleshed out, a little more flawed than I remember. The children are played by adults, narrated with more self-awareness. It doesn't feel like nearly 3 hours of theatre.
