BRIC, the leading presenter of free cultural programming in Brooklyn, is pleased to announce the lineup and sponsors for the 39th annual BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, which returns this year with 31 performances, June 7 - August 12. The programming, reflective of Brooklyn's eclecticism and diversity, will feature a wide array of free, world-class performances at the beautiful Prospect Park Bandshell.

BRIC has announced the rousing Brooklyn-based band Lake Street Dive will open the 39th annual BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, with a free concert, preceded by a gala honoring Brooklyn business empire owner Chris Sheehan on June 7 at the Prospect Park Bandshell.

BRIC has announced that legendary soul singer Chaka Khan will open the 37th annual Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, with a free concert June 3 at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Dubbed the "Queen of Funk," Chaka has stunned artists, audiences and critics alike over her 40-year career. She brings her unbridled talent to the Bandshell, continuing BRIC's longstanding tradition of presenting an eclectic mix of artists at the forefront of their field, all within the singular environs of Prospect Park. Previous Festival openers have included cultural luminary David Byrne, reggae icon Jimmy Cliff and pop sensation Janelle Monae, among many others.

Following its New York premiere at the 2013 Under The Radar festival and an international tour, BRIC will present Rodney King, Roger Guenveur Smith's solo performance on the legacy of Rodney King. The critically acclaimed production was listed in The New York Times as a Critics' Pick and described as 'sinuous, complicated, [and] deeply moving.'

BRIC is pleased to announce the 2014-2015 winners of Fireworks, BRIC's residency and commission program. Fireworks is designed to bring together artists of different disciplines who share a vision in development of new, large-scale multidisciplinary work. BRIC provides technical and financial resources to facilitate the collaborative development of creative projects that cross or erase artistic boundaries. The 2014-2015 winners are Aisha Cousins, Greg Tate, and Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber for their project Brer Rabbit The Opera: A Funky Meditation On Gentrification and Baruch 'Baba' Israel, Kiriakos 'YAKO 440' Prodis and Leo Kay for their project The Spinning Wheel.
