The six one-hour episodes follow five, career-driven childhood friends searching for success in the Detroit gospel scene and beyond. Navigating the murky waters of the music industry and hustling to step out of the shadows of their prominent parents…this close-knit crew grapples with their strict upbringing and high standards. Lookingglass Theatre Company has announced that Ensemble Member and playwright J. Nicole Brooks (Her Honor Jane Byrne) has been awarded an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant to support a three-year residency at Lookingglass Theatre Company through the National Playwright Residency Program (NPRP).

Lookingglass Theatre Company will present the World Premiere of Her Honor Jane Byrne, written and directed by Ensemble Member J. Nicole Brooks. Her Honor Jane Byrne runs February 26-April 12, 2020 at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson. The Press Performance will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.

Adventurous theatre-goers, take note: a short drive beyond the Beltway, just off the Dulles Access Road, sits Next Stop Theatre Company, a troupe with a growing reputation for solid acting; their current production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is an excellent introduction to the growing theatre scene in Herndon, Reston and beyond-a scene which will become much closer as the Silver Line makes its progress to Dulles Airport.

As the 2017 inauguration arrived, leaving many in the Washington, D.C.-area fleeing the city to avoid crowds, NextStop Theatre opened their first two performances of 2017 to packed houses of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing", now appearing through February 12, 2017. Inside a 114-seat black box theatre, just 20 miles west of the nation's capital, in Herndon, Virginia, "the original romantic comedy", whisks audiences off to the sun-drenched sandy beaches of Messina, Italy.

According to stopbullying.gov, 15 percent of high school students (grades nine-12) were electronically bullied in the past year. In one large study, about 49 percent of children in grades 4-12 reported being bullied by other students at school at least once during the past month, whereas 30.8 percent reported bullying others during that time. With such alarming numbers of bullying, author J. Russell Brooks writes a book that addresses the problem and sets up a platform for parents and children not only to share precious bonding time but also to openly talk about and discuss the reality of bullying. 'The Squirrel's Finnegan' (published by AuthorHouse) is the result of his passionate endeavor.

Playwright Sarah Ruhl, confronted with her beloved father's death, must have wrestled hard with how to honor his passing, without losing herself in the process.  Her play, Eurydice-in Jay D. Brock's production at Next Stop Theatre-is in some ways a witty take on the old Orpheus myth, but the wit is clearly in service of something more personal and contemporary.

"Eurydice" by Sarah Ruhl is now appearing Thursdays through Sundays until November 20, 2016 at NextStop Theatre, in Herndon, Virginia. The first look at photos from the production are now available.
