American Rhythm Center Hosts Free Classes at Fine Arts Building, Now thru 9/8

Celebrating a year of offering Chicago a range of dance classes at its innovative, collaborative dance/arts facility, the American Rhythm Center(ARC), a program of the Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), hosts a Free 4 All, four days of free dance classes on the third floor of the historic Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Avenue. The event takes place Thursday-Sunday, today, September 5-8.

Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton Present A SHOW OF HANDS, 10/17-26

Award-winning choreographer/directors Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere of A Show of Hands--their new, site-specific performance event that explores touch, gesture and the infinite expressive powers and possibilities of the human hand-- in six performances October 17 through 26 in the Pottruck Family Atrium of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. The work features an original score by Bay Area composer Dan Becker-performed by new contemporary ensemble, the Friction Quartet-a backdrop of hand drawings by Charles Moulton and six dancers. The free performances by Garrett + Moulton Productions will be given Thursday, October 17, at Noon; Friday, October 18, at 3:30 PM; Saturday, October 19, at 1 PM; Thursday, October 24, at 1 PM; Friday, October 25, at 3:30 PM; and Saturday, October 26, at 1 PM, and the San Francisco Jewish Community Center is located at 3200 California Street. Company C Contemporary Ballet Announces 2014 Season

Company C Contemporary Ballet founder and Artistic Director Charles Anderson has announced details of the Company's 2014 season of two programs plus a benefit gala in San Francisco and Walnut Creek with performances January 30 through May 11, 2014, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and ODC Theater in San Francisco and the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The 12th season will feature a wide range of the kinds of ballets that have set the barre high for this 14-member Bay Area Company, which will return to New York for its third season there at the Joyce Theater August 9 and 10. Theatricality, precision technique, bravura performance, wit and a flair for the off-beat and innovative will be embodied in world premieres by Anderson, Susan Jaffe, Maurice Causey and Charles Moulton, as well as in the return of repertory favorites by Anderson, Patrick Corbin, Alexandre Proia, Charles Moulton and Yuri Zhukov. BWW Interviews: Roberto Villanueva

ROBERTO VILLANUEVA, born in the Philippines, is the Executive/Artistic Director and Founder of BalaSole Dance Company. He trained briefly at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and received his BA in Dance Performance from University at Buffalo. Acclaimed nationally and internationally for his abilities as a dance artist, Roberto has performed, conducted dance residencies, judged dance competitions, and taught master classes in U.S., Europe, and Asia. He has worked with renowned choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden, Kevin Wynn, Milton Myers, and Eleo Pomare and performed with dance companies such as Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, Steeledance, Marie-Christine Giordano Dance, Pick of the Crop Dance, and Buffalo City Ballet. Roberto has mentored/worked with artists from renowned companies such as the Limon Dance Company, Elisa Monte Dance, Lucinda Childs Dance, Parsons Dance, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Philadanco, Joffrey Ballet, Donald Byrd/The Group, Ballet Frankfurt, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Twyla Tharp Dance, Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, The Isadora Duncan Dance Company, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, and Rockettes.

Dimensions Dance Theater to Celebrate 40th Anniversary at Yerba Beuna Center for the Arts, 10/5

In partnership with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Dimensions Dance Theater, the Bay Area's preeminent African-American dance company, is proud to announce the celebration of its 40th anniversary on October 5, 2013. This momentous occasion will be marked with a formal procession followed by a retrospective of the company's four decades of creativity and community-building. The evening will conclude with the world premiere of all four parts of Rhythms of Life: Down the Congo Line, a monumental work representing the legacy of traditional Congolese dance forms in the New World. Dance performances will be attended throughout by live music and ritual enactments.

Bandaloop Presents HARBORING at Fort Mason Center, Now thru 7/21

BANDALOOP, the Bay Area's acclaimed vertical dance company, is proud to present Harboring, a new hour long, multi-dimensional dance by Amelia Rudolph in collaboration with assistant artistic director Rachael Lincoln and the dancers of BANDALOOP, with art direction by celebrated designer Jack Carpenter. Staged in and around Fort Mason Center's iconic Festival Pavilion and inspired by Fort Mason's past and present, this world premiere moves through images of travel, memory, the fluidity of the ocean, rope craft and maritime industry using the medium of site-reactive multi-dimensional dance. Harboring will engage the space and interactive set pieces including a stack of shipping containers and a swinging frame/vessel to draw the viewer into an immersive experience.
