Dimensions Dance Theater to Celebrate 40th Anniversary at Yerba Beuna Center for the Arts, 10/5

In partnership with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Dimensions Dance Theater, the Bay Area's preeminent African-American dance company, is proud to announce the celebration of its 40th anniversary on October 5, 2013. This momentous occasion will be marked with a formal procession followed by a retrospective of the company's four decades of creativity and community-building. The evening will conclude with the world premiere of all four parts of Rhythms of Life: Down the Congo Line, a monumental work representing the legacy of traditional Congolese dance forms in the New World. Dance performances will be attended throughout by live music and ritual enactments.

BANDALOOP, the Bay Area's acclaimed vertical dance company, is proud to present Harboring, a new hour long, multi-dimensional dance by Amelia Rudolph in collaboration with assistant artistic director Rachael Lincoln and the dancers of BANDALOOP, with art direction by celebrated designer Jack Carpenter. Staged in and around Fort Mason Center's iconic Festival Pavilion and inspired by Fort Mason's past and present, this world premiere moves through images of travel, memory, the fluidity of the ocean, rope craft and maritime industry using the medium of site-reactive multi-dimensional dance. Harboring will engage the space and interactive set pieces including a stack of shipping containers and a swinging frame/vessel to draw the viewer into an immersive experience.

Utah's Repertory Dance Theatre was founded in 1966 as a fully-professional modern dance company through a cooperative effort involving the Salt Lake City community, the University of Utah and a major grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. This partnership was created to establish a company which would keep alive that unique, artistic achievement which is American Modern Dance.

Dance Currents, Inc. is presenting 'Charge the Air' at Green Street Studios Sunday May 12th at 2 pm. This event is the third in a series of Sunday afternoon concerts, presented by Dance Currents Inc. for their 2012-2013 season. 'Charge the Air' will be an afternoon of live music and dance including pieces from Dance Currents' repertory, new dances by Kathy Hassinger and Alison Smith, a graduate of the Masters program in Choreography from Laban Contemporary Dance, and the music of Saint Saens, Fantaisie played live by flutist Yuji Kano, and harpist, Morton Mason.

From 1964-68, Famed photographer Ansel Adams spent time at the University of California on a groundbreaking photographic project commissioned by UC President Clark Kerr. At its core the project, entitled Fiat Lux (Let There Be Light, the University of California motto) asked Adams to answer the question "How can we imagine our future?" Over the course of the project, Adams took thousands of photos of the entire UC system, culminating in a published book written by Nancy Newhall in 1967, which was revisited in a full-year, campuswide multimedia exploration of Adams' work this year called On the Same Page.
