GTA Presents IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, Now thru 12/28

In 1949, U.S. armed forces were recovering from World War II while grappling with an aggressive Soviet Union following the division of East and West Germany; RCA perfected a system for broadcasting television programs in color (though most households wouldn't have a color TV for 10 years) and gas was 17 cents a gallon. After years of suffering in the war effort, the post-war prosperity was just beginning, with homes, cars and hair-dos getting bigger.

BWW Reviews: In Entertaining Individual Shows, Anna Marie Sell and Kim Sutton Explore the Military Life Through Music

The month of December has always been an emotional time of the year, especially for our military families; a period to deeply reflect on family and country. Over the past few months in New York cabaret, a few performers have offered up musical testimony on wars, patriotism, and US military veterans. Recently, two singers fairly new to the cabaret scene--Anna Marie Sell and Kim Sutton--staged shows saluting the brave men and women who serve our country now and in the past.

BWW Blog: Patti Murin of Goodspeed's HOLIDAY INN - An Old-Fashioned Walk

"An Old-Fashioned Walk" or, I cheated on this title a little because I have a car Good day, friends! This week, I would like to take you through a week in my life at Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn, currently playing at the Goodspeed Opera House. I call this "An Old-Fashioned Walk" because a large majority of the company do not have vehicles up here, so they are old-fashioned walking everywhere. Also, since everything seems to be a 20 minute drive away, we old-fashioned walk to the theatre every day. And to 32 Main, the coffee shop up the hill. And to the liquor store across the street. Plus, I old-fashioned walk my dog, Milo, every single day, like 47 times a day, so my whole life seems to be old-fashioned walking. Thank goodness I have a FitBit to tell me if I'm old-fashioned walking enough every day!

Noel Coward wrote in a song, 'If love were all, I should be lonely', declaring the impossibility of romantic love. He continued this theme onstage in Private Lives, and on screen in Brief Encounter and once again in his most produced play internationally Blithe Spirit, now onstage in a sterling production at the Ahmanson through January 18, and starring the one and only Angela Lansbury.
