Si-Yo Music Society Foundation will present the inaugural Sau-Wing and Jean L. Lam Award to the New Jersey City University Music, Dance and Theater Department (NJCU MDT) on Friday, April 27 at 8 p.m. at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The award honors those who educate, inspire and support the next generation of musicians from all backgrounds. The event will feature performances by NJCU MDT students and alumni.

Anderson and Andrea Beckham, The University of Texas at Austin's award-winning dance company Dance Repertory Theatre returns to the stage in Transcendence, March 28-April 8 at the B. Iden Payne Theatre. A celebration of life and legacy, Transcendence features works by nationally renowned artists, including Rennie Harris, Yacov Sharir, Madison Hicks, Andee Scott and Andrea Beckham, as well as emerging choreographers Courtney Mazeika and Ginnifer Joe.

Morrison Center Named Cultural Ambassador For City Of Boise, Receives Award At City Hall With City Council

Mayor David Bieter has named the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, Idaho's premier performing arts center, as a City of Boise cultural ambassador for a two-year term. As part of the recognition, the Morrison Center and Global Lounge, the other 2017 selection, will act as Boise's honorary representatives to the world.

Hailed as a masterpiece at its sold-out 2009 world premiere in Toronto and subsequent 2011 tour to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Canadian Opera Companypresents the revival of Robert Lepage's theatrically transcendent production of Stravinsky's The Nightingale and Other Short Fables. Nine performances take place on April 13, 14, 22, May 1, 2, 10, 12, 13, 19, 2018.

Sondra Radvanovsky Reigns in ANNA BOLENA at the COC

Opera's reigning queen of bel canto, Canadian-American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, returns to the Canadian Opera Company this spring to close its 2017/2018 season with Donizetti's Tudor drama, Anna Bolena. Last performed at the COC in 1984, the opera captures the tumultuous final days of Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn, as she fights for her honour and her life. Anna Bolenaruns for nine performances on April 28, May 3, 5, 8, 11, 16, 20, 24, 26, 2018.

Exhibition At Tougaloo College Launches Art & Civil Rights Initiative With Mississippi Museum Of Art

The Mississippi Museum of Art (the Museum) and Tougaloo College (the College) are presenting Now: The Call and Look of Freedom, the inaugural exhibition of the Art and Civil Rights Initiative (the Initiative) through May 15, 2018. The Initiative, funded by the Henry Luce Foundation and launched in December 2017, is a multi-layered, multi-year partnership that leverages the art collections of both institutions to foster community dialogue and interpretation about civil rights issues, past and present.  Romare Bearden. The Conversation, 1979 Elizabeth Catlett. My Right is a Future of Equality with Other Americans, from The Negro Woman series, 1947 Now: The Call and Look of Freedom is on view at the Tougaloo College Art Gallery in The Bennie G. Thompson Academic & Civil Rights Research Center. It is the first in a series of four exhibitions over two years drawing from the collections of the College and the Museum to be mounted alternatively at both institutions. The exhibition is curated by LaTanya Autry, Curator of Art & Civil Rights, a joint position she holds with the College and the Museum. 

MLK50 Artwork Set For Unveiling In South Main Arts District

Anyone familiar with the work of Nigerian-born, Memphis based artist Ephraim Urevbu, will be interested to see the recent work he created in tribute to the city-wide MLK50 commemoration. In the spirit of forging a new path, and recognition of the tremendous legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who sought to bring a nation together rooted in justice and peace, Art Village Gallery in partnership with the National Civil Rights Museum's MLK50 commemoration, will host an unveiling reception of an original painting titled E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One) created by Mr. Urevbu, to be held at Art Village gallery, 410 S Main Street, Friday, March 16, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

Your Program Is Your Ticket Interviews Frigid NY Artists

New York City based theatre podcast, Your Program Is Your Ticket, presents a special series of theatre interviews with artists from the 2018 Frigid Festival in New York. Award-winning playwright and podcast creator, Sean Chandler, hosts the interviews which include playwrights, directors, and actors, and features local, national, and Canadian artists. Episodes 51, 52 and 53 were just released and they feature artists from a wide range of Frigid shows including The Magicians Assistant, Artemisia's Intent, and mOTHER, a play, among others.

Grand Theatre Presents A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS In Association With San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater
