Coeurage Theatre Company, LA's Pay What You Want theatre company, has announced the first production of its ninth season, Slaughter City by Naomi Wallace. Directed by Coeurage Artistic Director Jer Adrianne Lelliott, there will be one preview performance on Friday, June 22, at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, June 23, at 8pm. Slaughter City will play through July 14 at the Historic Lankershim Arts Center in North Hollywood.

In April of 2012, Ilia Volok debuted his one-man show, DIARY OF A MADMAN in Los Angeles. The production received both public popularity and critical acclaim. He has since brought it back several times in the L.A. area.This month, the production will open at the American Theatre of Actors Beckmann Theatre in New York.

Michael Harney, star of the three-time SAG Award-winning Netflix hit drama series Orange Is The New Black as Inmate Counselor Sam Healy, returns to his theater roots as playwright of the evening of highly anticipated one-act plays right here in Los Angeles.

While the writing is a bit disjointed and the story much too difficult to follow due to many comments spoken only in Polish by Ilia Volok as Zemon, a Polish taxi driver who provides various services to Maria, the acting by the two leads Seamus Mulcahy and Deanna Dunagan is superb. But while their characters are fascinating in their complexity and Robin Larsen's direction keeps the action moving briskly around the three rooms making up Tom Buderwitz's scenic design (which places the set in the middle of the space with audience members seated on both sides), this up close and personal theatrical experience seems to have something lacking in the fabric of the writing to keep you interested in what exactly is going on between these two lost souls.

Leading the cast is Tony Award-winning star of August: Osage County Deanna Dunagan, Seamus Mulcahy and Ilia Volok. Opening Night is tonight, April 1, in the  Lovelace Studio Theater.
