September 2016 is also known as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.  According to National Vital Statistics Reports, suicide was the second leading cause of death for Asian Americans aged 15 to 34.   It is also the leading cause of death among Gay and Lesbian youth nationally.  To help build awareness around the issue of suicide and to promote prevention, Barnard College Student Life presents Marisa Marquez's new American play, Ms. Oriental, which is directed by Ilana Becker.

 Ars Nova has announced the lineup for its 8th Annual ANT Fest, running June 1 - 26.  This year's festival of all new talent features four nonstop weeks of comedy, music & theater mash-ups, and invites audiences on a nightly adventure with the next wave of breakthrough artists at Ars Nova.  A complete lineup is listed below.

The Civilians, the Obie award-winning theatre company, announces the members of its 2014-15 Research and Development (R&D) Group, comprised of writers, composers, and directors interested in creating new works of investigative theater.

Now in its fourth year, The Communal Spaces Festival will premiere eight new short plays inspired by and performed in community gardens in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The festival will take place on the last weekend in August and the first two weekends in September. Previous festivals have included site specific performances in community gardens on the Lower East Side, East Village, Upper West Side and Harlem. In the past four years 27 new works have been presented. This year's titles include Washougal My Heart, COMPETE ME and ALTHEA THE GARDEN CANTATA.

With a cast of Broadway and off-Broadway singers, the night will feature world-premiere performances from his new musical Letters To Santa, as well as songs from the musical wedding comedy Save The Date, which won a 2013 New York International Fringe Festival Overall Excellence Award for a Musical, and much more. The Confession will receive a staged reading in The Platform Group's Ladder Series: A Staged Reading Series Aimed at Getting New Plays to the Next Rung. Out of more than 100 submissions, ten new plays will receive a staged reading at The Creek and Cave in Long Island City, NY. The Ladder series started in July and continues into early October.
