Tshidi Manye, who currently stars as 'Rafiki' in the Broadway production of The Lion King will be performing in concert Monday, November 7th at 8pm at dromNYC (85 Avenue A between 5th and 6th Streets) to celebrate the release of her debut album, WILDFLOWER. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door and can be purchased at www.dromnyc.com.

The great tradition of Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl continues on June 22 with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, special guest Joe Lovano and - opening the night - South African trumpeter, singer and composer Hugh Masekela. As part of their set, JLCO, Marsalis and Lovano will perform a special tribute to James Moody.

Before jazz had a name and 'world music' was a concept, a young trumpet player emerged from another hemisphere and landed alongside some of the greatest icons in American music. Louis Armstrong sent him a trumpet. Harry Belafonte arranged for him to come to New York City to study music. Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis took him under their wings. That man, Hugh Masekela, born out of apartheid South Africa, has consistently toured worldwide and his genre-bending dynamism has led to his own icon status. His uncategorizable sound comes to life on his October 2010 North American tour.
