Broadway Dance Lab Founding Artistic Director Josh Prince (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) announced today that the non-profit organization will officially become Dance Lab New York (DLNY) today, Friday, February 1, 2019. While the mission will remain the same, the new name and branding is emblematic of the organization's service to the greater dance and theater community while also allowing for partnership opportunities with major arts organizations in New York City and around the world.
Atlantic Theater Company stages the world premiere production of Fireflies, written by Donja R. Love and directed by Saheem Ali. Fireflies is the second part of Donja R. Love's trilogy, which began with the acclaimed play Sugar in Our Wounds, also directed by Saheem Ali. Broadway Dance Lab announced today that it has awarded creation grants to choreographers Hope Boykin, Jessica Hendricks, and Nicholas Ranauro, as part of the company's Fall 2018 Cycle. The grantees will each be gifted 20 hours of rehearsal time and a company of 12 professional dancers, to be used in the development of new work. The Cycle will run Oct. 15 - Nov. 17, and will culminate with an informal showing of the new works-in-progress.
Performed at The Ailey Citigroup Theater in Ailey's home, The Joan Weill Center for Dance, Reveal featured nine original works choreographed and performed by members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, with a special appearance by acclaimed Guest Artist and Rehearsal Director Matthew Rushing. Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin today announced that A Day's Work, a new original series on NYC Life, the City's flagship broadcast network, will premiere on Monday, April 23 at 9:00 PM. A Day's Work is a half-hour show featuring industrious, real-life New Yorkers as they go about their jobs. The show's first season will focus on careers in the arts and entertainment industries. Each episode follows three people working in different aspects of the same field to provide viewers with a sense of the breadth of jobs in that particular industry. New episodes each week will focus on different fields, including dance, publishing, and the fast-growing field of virtual reality.
