Thankfully, Idol chose not to go with a specific artist's songbook this week - one can only take so much of a weird sort of karaoke night where the jukebox is stuck on one artist - and instead had the contestants perform songs from their own idols (solo and as part of three trios), resulting in some variety at long last. Tonight the remaining ten AMERICAN IDOL hopefuls tackled the songs of Billy Joel. From Tommy Hilfiger coaching the contestants on their style to Diddy guest coaching on vocals, it was an exciting night for the singers.

It's another week and that means another elimination on American Idol, but tonight's is a little different - the second elimination of this week means that they're down to the top ten, and the top ten will tour with Idol this summer.

Week three of the revamped American Idol kicked off in Austin tonight, and with this third trip to the Lone Star state marks the midpoint of the initial audition round. That's right, in just two weeks, on February 16, the golden ticket holders will begin the annual Hollywood showdown. Until then, we'll have to stay content with the 7500 auditionees that Texas had to offer tonight.
