Actors Theatre Announces 2018-2019 Season

Actors Theatre of Louisville is proud to announce the 2018-2019 Season, beginning in September. Artistic Director Les Waters introduces the lineup, "In the coming season, we examine identity and ask 'Who are we and how did we get here?' We are delighted to welcome back Lucas Hnath with his witty and electrifying A Doll's House, Part 2 and Dominique Morisseau with Pipeline, her incisive and heartfelt look at education and the responsibilities of being a parent. We are proud to produce the Broadway hit The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, both a thrilling 'whodunnit' and 'who am I?.' In the acclaimed Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, Mr. Felder examines the life of immigrant and American legend Irving Berlin through song and story. It's 2018, and together we'll ask 'who are you and how did you become who you are now?'"

Actor, Musician, Composer Delights at Seattle Rep in HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN

The story and music of America's Composer come to life on stage with Seattle Repertory Theatre's presentation of Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, a play-with-music written and performed by award-winning actor and musician Hershey Felder (Broadway's George Gershwin Alone, Off-Broadway's Maestro; Our Great Tchaikovsky, and others). Directed by Trevor Hay, Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin will play the Bagley Wright stage February 23-March 18, 2018 (opening night is February 28, 2018), and tickets are on sale now through the Seattle Rep Box Office at 206.443.2222 and online at SeattleRep.org.  

Hershey Felder Returns to Chicago with OUR GREAT TCHAIKOVSKY at Steppenwolf Theatre

HERSHEY FELDER PRESENTS the Midwest Premiere of Our Great Tchaikovsky, a new play-with-music featuring the compositions of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Directed by Trevor Hay with a book and performance by Hershey Felder. Following critically acclaimed and record breaking productions at San Diego Rep, Hartford Stage, Los Angeles' Wallis Annenberg, Theatreworks Silicon Valley and London's West End, Felder's newest work takes on Russia's most celebrated and perhaps most mysterious composer, Tchaikovsky.

Hershey Felder Sets New Record At TheatreWorks Silicon Valley

On the eve of its first performance, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley has announced that its presentation of Hershey Felder's Our Great Tchaikovsky is already establishing a new all-time box office record for the 48 year-old Bay Area theatre company and it is not even open yet. This newest work by acclaimed performer and playwright Hershey Felder is on track to shatter the theatre's previous record, set last year with TheatreWorks' presentation of Hershey Felder, Beethoven which set a high bar as the company's highest grossing show, amassing $637,767 in sales the day before opening. It has been bested by Our Great Tchaikovsky, which has now sold more than $710,000 to date, and may well top Beethoven's final sales total. Tickets are disappearing fast as theatre-goers flock to see Felder's latest piece, which runs Tuesdays through Sundays, January 10 February 11, 2018, at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St., Mountain View. TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2017/2018 season with the Bay Area premiere of the stunning musical tribute, Our Great Tchaikovsky, written and performed by Hershey Felder, who shattered box office records at TheatreWorks with his acclaimed portrayals of Irving Berlin and Beethoven. Exploring both current Russian politics and historical context, piano virtuoso Felder brings to life the music and story of composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in a time-bending tale. From the iconic ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker, to the outrageous 1812 Overture and brilliant symphonic works, this powerful music journey travels from Czarist times to today, bringing vivid life to a haunted genius. The Wallis presents The World Premiere Of LAST THOUGHTS: SCHUBERT'S FINAL WORKS

In the last few months of his short life, prolific Austrian composer Franz Schubert wrote some of the most miraculous music ever created. Now, acclaimed Los Angeles-based pianist Ory Shihor presents the story behind Schubert's last compositions in the world premiere of Last Thoughts: Schubert's Final Works at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 7:30pm. With words by master musical storyteller Hershey Felder, Shihor's program includes the two of three final piano sonatas created by Schubert, who bridged the worlds of Classical and Romantic music in the early nineteenth century. This performance is made possible in part by the generous support of Camille and Arnon Adar.

The San Diego Theatre Critics Circle has announced the nominations for its 16th annual Craig Noel Awards for Theatrical Excellence, which will be presented in a ceremony on Feb. 12, 2018, at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation in San Diego.

THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER Comes to Rochester One Night Only

The Hip Hop Nutcracker (www.hiphopnutcracker.com), a contemporary dance spectacle set to Tchaikovsky's timeless music, hits the road this holiday season to 28 U.S. cities. The show will perform in Rochester at RBTL's Auditorium Theatre for one night only on December 20! Produced by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) with Executive Producer, Eva Price, and co-commissioned by the United Palace of Cultural Arts, The Hip Hop Nutcracker will feature Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop's founding fathers, opening the show in most cities with a short set before rapping the introduction.

Winter @ The Wallis Returns In 2018 With 18 Great Dance, Music & Theater Events

The 2017/18 season of world-class dance, music and theater continues as the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) presents its third annual Winter @ The Wallis series. This year, Winter @ The Wallis programming grows to eighteen events to be performed in the Bram Goldsmith Theater and the intimate Lovelace Studio Theater, beginning on Saturday, January 6 with the classical music duo, violinist Sarah Chang and pianist Julio Elizalde. Other highlights include: The Wallis debut of the L.A.-based dance company Lula Washington Dance Theatre; a weekend celebrating the great jazz legend Arturo Sandoval along with other local jazz artists; the modern music collective wild Up under the baton of founder Christopher Rountree; the return of the innovative United Kingdom-based theater company Kneehigh with The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk; and the world premiere of Tom Dugan's Jackie Unveiled.

Hershey Felder to Debut Debussy Show in 2019; 'Irving Berlin' Headed to San Diego, New York This Season

Award-winning actor and piano virtuoso HERSHEY FELDER will bring a special return engagement of his wildly acclaimed one-man show, HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN to San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP). In related news, HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN will return to New York later in 2018, with an Off-Broadway run from August 24 through October 28, 2018 at 59E59 Theatres. Hershey Felder also announces that his newest solo work featuring music from the 19th century French composer Claude Debussy, UNE HISTOIRE D'AMOUR A PARIS, A Paris Love Story, will open in the U.S. at a theater to be announced in 2019.
