Wallis Annenberg Center For The Performing Arts Announces 2018/2019 Season

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts announced today the 2018/2019 season, delivering ten months of groundbreaking produced and presented works in dance, music and theater from locally, nationally and internationally renowned artists and companies. The season begins September 21, 2018, marking the third year of programming under the leadership of Artistic Director Paul Crewes and Managing Director Rachel Fine and the sixth for the institution. Michael Nemeroff, Chairman of the Board of The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, begins the second year of his term.

"As part of our commitment to developing lasting relationships with artists and companies, local and abroad, we will continue to produce new works as well as present world renowned companies and performances," says The Wallis' Artistic Director Paul Crewes. "Our 2018/2019 Season not only brings back collaborations with old friends such as Jacob Jonas The Company and For The Record, but also introduces a new musical we're developing with creators Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, called Witness Uganda.We're equally excited to be working with new friends, among them L.A. Master Chorale, the National Theater of Great Britain, National Sawdust from New York, Malpaso Dance Company from Cuba, PigPen Theater Company, and Film Independent."

After a sold-out run in The Wallis' 2016/2017 Season, Jacob Jonas The Company returns as the 2018/2019 Season Company-in-Residence, with a studio series in the intimate Lovelace Studio Theater and a world premiere in the Bram Goldsmith Theater. The Company - led by its dynamic namesake - is gaining international acclaim for its honest storytelling, visceral performances and cutting-edge content creation - including the #CamerasandDancers visual arts movement. Among theatre highlights are the Los Angeles return of The National Theatre of Great Britain's Tony and Olivier Award-winning landmark production of J B Priestley'sAn Inspector Calls, directed by Stephen Daldry, among the most remarkable and unique productions of modern times; For The Record and The Wallis' production of Love ActuallyLive; Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' Witness Uganda: A Documentary Musical; the Los Angeles Premiere of Hershey Felder as Claude Debussy in A Paris Love Story; and Keith A. Wallace's The Bitter Game. Cinema presentations include the LA Film Festival @ The Wallis and four screening events in partnership with Film Independent.

The Sorting Room-the wildly successful series that transforms the Lovelace Studio Theater into an intimate nightclub-is returning in the winter of 2018 and summer of 2019, offering the best talent from a wide range of genres including the American songbook, spoken word, comedy, classic cabaret, storytelling, dance, contemporary music, and more. The 2018 Winter Session will open with the world premiere of Sandra Bernhard'sSandemonium!this December.

Among free, family-friendly presentations are the return of Debbie Allen & Friends with the highly popular Dance Sundaysseries beginning November 11 and Story Pirates with three free performances geared especially for toddlers on November 11, January 13 and February 10 - all on The Wallis' Promenade Terrace.

In addition to their public performances, the artists on our stages will also engage with and support our deep commitment to education through GRoW @ The Wallis. Next season The Wallis will again welcome school groups from across Los Angeles County to experience many of these programs in special GRoW @ The Wallis student matinee performances. All dance companies performing in the season will also offer master classes for young dancers. Other continuing or on-going programs under the GRoW @ The Wallis banner include: original musical theater development workshop with special support from Stephen Schwartz; The Wallis Student Arts Reporters; The Miracle Project, a performing arts program for young people with autism and all abilities; The Wallis Studio Ensemble (formerly The Wallis Youth Theater Company) led by Madeline Dahm.

Since opening its doors in October 2013, The Wallis has produced or presented more than 250 dance, theatre, opera, classical music, cinema and family programs to an ever-expanding audience. Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, California, The Wallis brings audiences world-class theater, dance and music, performed by many of the world's most talented and sought-after artists. Featuring eclectic programming that mirrors the diverse landscape of Los Angeles and its notability as the entertainment capital of the world, The Wallis offers original and revered works from across the U.S. and around the globe. The mission of The Wallis is to create, present and celebrate unique performing arts events and educational programs that reflect the rich cultural diversity of our community. Nominated for 48 Ovation Awards, seven L.A. Drama Critic's Circle Awards and the recipient of six architectural awards since opening in 2013. The Wallis is a breathtaking 70,000-square-foot venue that celebrates the classic and the modern and was designed by Zoltan E. Pali, FAIA, of Studio Pali Fekete architects. The building features the restored, original 1933 Beverly Hills Post Office (on the National Register of Historic Places) that serves as the theater's dramatic yet welcoming lobby, and houses the 150-seat Lovelace Studio Theater, GRoW at The Wallis: A Space for Arts Education (a gift of Gregory Annenberg Weingarten and Family and the Annenberg Foundation) and the contemporary 500-seat, state-of-the art Bram Goldsmith Theater.
