Derek Jacobi and Richard Clifford to Lead World Premiere of MEASURE + DIDO Celebrating Shakespeare

Renowned actor Derek Jacobi stars with actor/director Richard Clifford and the acclaimed early musicians of Washington DC's Folger Consort in the world premiere performances of MEASURE + DIDO, celebrating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's legacy. Presented by NapaShakes and Folger Shakespeare Library, this extraordinary production combines dramatic readings of William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure with excerpts from Henry Purcell's chamber opera Dido and Aeneas to create a perfect depiction of the ecstasy and excesses of love. With a cast of 27 including Peter Becker (baritone), Molly Quinn (soprano), and Emily Noel (soprano), don't miss the first performances of this historic pairing of two monumental works, starring one of the world's most respected and beloved actors, before it moves to the Eisenhower Theater at Washington, DC's Kennedy Center in October.

Samuel Beckett's Radio Play ALL THAT FALL Among Lincoln Center's 2016 White Light Festival Lineup

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives. Long Beach Opera Sets 2017 Season

Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek today announced Long Beach Opera's (LBO) 2017 season. “LBO's  38th season will offer four operas new to Southern California,” said Mitisek. “We'll bring stories that play against the tide of conventions and that are also quintessentially American.  And, we'll work alongside a broad range of collaborators to tell these stories.  As always, to paraphrase Robert Frost, we take the road less travelled, and that makes all the difference.

BWW Opera Review: MASTERVOICES Strikes a Masterful Chord with Dido and Aeneas

A heavenly aura flooded through the regal New York City Center this past Thursday night at the MasterVoices premiere of Henry Purcell & Nahum Tate's baroque opera, Dido and Aeneas. With a full orchestra, the MasterVoices choir, and the Doug Varone and Dancers company, this unique production created a majestic escape of light, sound, and movement for audience-goers. But the crème de la crème was the other-worldly talents of lead vocalists Kelli O' Hara & Victoria Clark, both geniuses in their own right, as they created the perfect balance of good and evil, sweet and sinful through every note.

Orchestra of St. Luke to Welcome Susan Graham and Nicholas McGegan

Orchestra of St. Luke's welcomes superstar mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, as soloist on its final Carnegie Hall Orchestra Series concert of the season. Lauded "America's favorite mezzo," Graham will sing Britten's Phaedra and three works by Purcell in her only Carnegie Hall appearance this season.

Violinist Robert Mealy, director of Juilliard Historical Performance, leads Juilliard's period-instrument ensemble Juilliard415 in a program featuring Baroque dance entitled'Terpsichore: A Baroque Dance Mix,' on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 7:30pm in Alice Tully Hall. Joining Juilliard415 will be professional Baroque dancers: Caroline Copeland, Carlos Fittante, Alexis Silver, and Andrew Trego, in period choreography reconstructed by Caroline Copeland and Carlos Fittante, and students from Juilliard Dance: Alysia Johnson, Eoin Robinson, My'kal Stromile, and Peter Farrow, in modern choreography by Peter Farrow.

Chicago Opera Theater Sets 2016-17 Season

Today, from the historic Studebaker Theater, Chicago Opera Theater (COT) announced plans for its 2016/17 season, which will bring rarely performed operas and a world premiere to a range of Chicago neighborhoods, will target new types of audiences and will set the stage for a bold future ahead for the company now in its 43rd season. At the event, Andreas Mitisek, COT's Stefan Edlis & Gael Neeson General Director, detailed the ambitious new season, which will feature performances at the Music Box Theatre, the Studebaker Theater Chicago and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.

Shelter Studios Set for Staged Reading of LOSS, March 6-8

A Staged Reading of Loss written and directed by Deloss Brown with music composed by Bob Trien (BMI Musical Theater Workshop), Henry Purcell and Sir Arthur Sullivan and words by Deloss Brown as well as poets, playwrights and lyricists throughout the ages will have three performances at Shetler Studios taking place on March 6, 7 and 8 beginning at 7PM. The cast features Tara Frederickson* (Metropolitan Opera, Classic Stage Company), James Plante* and Jessica Eleanor Grant* (New York Shakespeare Company). *(member of Actors Equity)

Harris Theater Gala's IMAGINE THE CELEBRATION with Mark Morris Dance Group Set for 4/5

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance is pleased to announce Imagine the Celebration, the Gala event which will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, hosted by the Harris Theater for Music and Dance and Gala Chairs Jay Franke and David Herro. The internationally renowned Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble will headline the evening with a performance of Dido and Aeneas. The evening will celebrate the completion of the first phase of the Imagine campaign which made the renovation and expansion of the public space of the Harris Theater possible.

Opera Atelier Announces Schedule for 2016-2017 Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Toronto, ON (January 26, 2016) – Opera Atelier's founding co-artistic directors Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg today announced the company's 2016-2017 season, featuring Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Charpentier's Medea. Both operas are derived from ancient myth and feature a powerful, complex female protagonist. The season begins in October with Dido and Aeneas (Oct. 20-29, 2016), featuring Wallis Giunta and Christopher Enns, and continues with Medea (Apr. 22-29, 2017), featuring Peggy Kriha Dye and Colin Ainsworth. Following its Toronto run, Medea will tour to the Royal Opera House at the Palace of Versailles as part of Opera Atelier's engagement to perform there every two years.
