On Monday Linda Lavin performed her show titled 'My Second Farewell Concert' in New York City at the legendary Birdland. Last night she said a great musical hello to the Hudson Valley at Helsinki Hudson.
Linda Lavin returned to the historic Birdland stage last night with a show titled 'My Second Farewell Concert'. The musicianship and entertainment of her performance will make it very hard for Ms. Lavin in any way have a real 'Farewell Concert'. More accurately the title should have been one of her prior shows called 'Starting Over.'
Lola, the latest release from acclaimed Austin-based artist Carrie Rodriguez is out now via Luz/Thirty Tigers. Inspired by 1940s-era recordings of her San Antonio-born great aunt Eva Garza, the bilingual album presents a collection of ranchera-inspired originals by Rodriguez in English, Spanish and 'Spanglish,' coupled with Spanish songs written by some of her favorite Mexican composers. Rodriguez is touring widely in support of the album -- see dates below.
Linda Lavin and musician/director/actor/painter/writer husband Steve Bakunas walked the Red Carpet a few days ago at the Broadway Opening of Hamilton and then drove up the carpet of Green to their home in the Berkshires to perform at Lee Tannen's Helsinki on Broadway and of course BroadwayWorld was at both events. This summer the East Coast is getting treated to Linda Lavin and Billy Stritch as Linda has brought her show titled Starting Over and her swinging band to PTown, the Hudson Valley, and on September 16th to Guild Hall in East Hampton. At Helsinki on Broadway last night Linda was the star of the show, but the food at Helsinki Hudson definitely also gets top billing.
Linda Lavin had a triumphant return engagement at Helsinki on Broadway last night. With her music director Billy Stritch, Linda played to a sold out Helsinki Hudson crowd. Joining Linda was husband Steve Bakunas on drums, Tom Hubbard on bass, Ron Afif on guitar and special guest, Jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein. Jim Caruso was Linda's special surprise for the Hudson audience. BroadwayWorld was there for this special one night only concert.
Tony Award-winning Broadway headliner and celebrated cabaret performer Randy Graff brought her new solo show MADE IN BROOKLYN to Club Helsinki this weekend at Club Helsinki.
Those who are familiar with Mother Falcon's sweepingly beautiful live shows, need no further explanation of how a concert of the Austin ensemble changes one's perception of great live music.
