Today, we continue BroadwayWorld's newest feature column with a special Passover Week tribute to one of the most cherished and beloved musicals ever written, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.

The Colony Theatre is thrilled to present Ian Buchanan and Mariette Hartley starring in THE LION IN WINTER, written by James Goldman and directed by Stephanie Vlahos. THE LION IN WINTER will preview tonight, April 16; Thursday, April 17; and Friday, April 18 at 8:00pm and will open on Saturday, April 19 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, May 18 at The Colony Theatre, 555 N. Third Street (at Cypress) adjacent to the Burbank Town Center Mall.

Broadway producer and director Harold Prince will speak at William Paterson University in Wayne as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series on Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the University's Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. The program has been rescheduled from the original date of April 4.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Fiddler on the Roof, Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning lyricist Sheldon Harnick will be honored and will perform with the largest-ever reunion of original, revival and film cast members as part of an all-star benefit concert for The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene on Monday, June 9th, at New York's Town Hall.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents The Trumpet of the Swan, A Novel Symphony for Actors and Orchestra, adapted by Marsha Norman from E.B. White's timeless children's novel, with music by composer, Jason Robert Brown. Norman and Brown are also currently represented on Broadway with the new musical adaptation of The Bridges of Madison County. The Trumpet of the Swan, part of the Jack Elliott Family Concert Series, runs for a limited engagement, May 2 - 4, 2014 at the Bram Goldsmith Theater.

Over the course of his fifty year career, Stephen Sondheim has written shows of a predominantly darker hue. He's tackled stories about showgirls who are past their prime, a barber turned serial killer, a giant who destroys a fairy tale kingdom, presidential assassins, and an entire country selling out to the western world. Still, his unassuming 1981 musical about the slow demise of a three-pronged friendship may be the saddest thing he's ever written. If that sounds like an indication that you should skip Merrily We Roll Along, keep in mind that no one does sad like Sondheim. In other words, roll along to St. Edwards University, see this show, and enjoy the emotional sucker punch.

Al Tapper, composer of the Off Broadway shows Sessions, An Evening at the Carlyle and National Pastime, has won a highly prestigious Peabody Award for his documentary Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy. Tapper produced the 90 minute show for WNET. The Peabody Award celebrates excellence in broadcasting. Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy is the first documentary film to explore the phenomenal relationship that Broadway has had with Jewish Americans. From George Gershwin to Irving Berlin to Kander and Ebb to Stephen Sondheim, the Broadway musical has been dominated by Jewish writers and composers.

Long Wharf Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and Managing Director Joshua Borenstein, will present The Last Five Years, written and composed by Jason Robert Brown, from May 7 through June 1, 2014 on the Claire Tow Stage in the C. Newton Schenck III Theatre.

Dinosaurs once again roam the earth when the spectacular production, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS THE ARENA SPECTACULAR, based on the award-winning BBC Television Series, returns to North America this summer. The show that critics have called 'awesome', 'spectacular' and 'breathtaking' will commence a new tour in Cleveland from July 9-13, 2014. The Dallas Opera has announced a cast change for the third production of the company's 2013-2014 “By Love Transformed” Season, Erich Wolfgang Korngold's late-Romantic masterpiece, DIE TOTE STADT (“The Dead City”).

The Sierra Stages production of the landmark musical comedy COMPANY by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth closes its four weekend run on Sunday March 23.
