Clurman Lab Sets 'MOTHER COURAGE' in a German Beer Hall This Winter

The Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater Company is transforming Studio G at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting into a German beer hall in this lively production of MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN by Bertolt Brecht and conceived by director John Gould Rubin, which will include live music as well as beer & sausages for purchase. Using a translation by Tony Kushner, the production will open on January 28th with performances running through February 20th.

Actress Joanna Miles, who won two Emmy Awards in 1973 for playing Laura in TV's The Glass Menagerie, will co-star with David Selby in a world premiere drama Front Door Open at the Greenway Court Theatre in LA opening November 13. In our talk, Miles discusses the play, her costar David Selby as well as highlights from her career.

THE GORGES MOTEL Begins Tonight at TBG Theatre

The Gorges Motel, an evening of short plays by authors including Gretchen Cryer, will have its world premiere on Wednesday, October 7th, for a limited engagement of seven performances only - tonight, October 7th and October 8th, 9th 10th, 14th, 15th and 16th at TBG Theatre at The Barrow Group Studios (312 West 36th Street 3rd Floor). The production is directed by Five Time Emmy Award winner Chris Goutman.

MERCY KILLERS to Play University of Utah

In partnership with the University of Utah School of Medicine's Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities, UtahPresents brings the powerful one-man play Mercy Killers to the Eccles Auditorium at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Mercy Killers, written and performed by Michael Milligan and directed by Tom Oppenheim, will be performed on Friday, November 6 at 7:00 PM, with a talkback following the performance. Tickets are $20, with a $5 ticket for U of U students and a $10 ticket for non-U students and youth 18 and under, and are available at 801-581-7100 or utahpresents.org.

Harris Center Presents Michael Milligan in MERCY KILLERS This Weekend

Mercy Killers is in the tradition of American playwrights from Arthur Miller and Clifford Odets, to Tony Kushner and Anna Deavere Smith, in capturing political and social reality in powerful story and unforgettable character. 'Over 60% of all bankruptcies in the U.S. are the result of medical debt. What most people don't realize is that the majority of those bankruptcies, the person involved actually had insurance at the onset of their health crises,' says Milligan. This discovery led him to collect stories from people suffering financial disaster on top of chronic illnesses.

TREASURE Begins in October at Finborough Theatre

Theater for the New City presents BIKE SHOP, The Musical starring Elizabeth Barkan and directed by Gretchen Cryer starting at TNC's Cino Theater tonight, September 11th, and running thru September 27th. The libretto is by Elizabeth Barkan with lyrics by Caroline Murphy and music by Youn-Young Park. Gerry Deiffenbach is Musical Director.

Full Cast Announced for TEDDY FERRARA at Donmar Warehouse

The Donmar Warehouse announces full casting for the UK premiere of Teddy Ferrara, Christopher Shinn's insightful and revealing play, inspired by real events, explores society's uncomfortable embrace of the outsider. Dominic Cooke will direct his first theatre production since leaving the Royal Court in 2013, with a full cast featuring Nancy Crane, Griffyn Gilligan, Nick Harris, Christopher Imbrosciano, Oliver Johnstone, Kadiff Kirwan, Ryan McParland, Matthew Marsh, Anjli Mohindra, Luke Newberry, Pamela Nomvete, Abubakar Salim and Nathan Wiley.

AWAKE & SING to Run 9/26-11/29 at Odyssey Theatre

Gritty, passionate, funny and heartbreaking, Awake and Sing! by Clifford Odets continues to resonate 80 years after its 1935 premiere by the Group Theatre. Director Elina de Santos and lead actress Marilyn Fox return to the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble with a 20th anniversary revival of the smash Odyssey production that ran for nine months in 1994-95. Also returning from that production are Richard Fancy and Dennis Madden; the three will be joined onstage by David Agranov, Robert Lesser, Allan Miller, James Morosini, Melissa Paladino and Gary Patent. Awake and Sing! opens at the Odyssey Theatre on Sept. 26.

William Hugel Double-Bill MEDUSA and THE ODDITY Set for TNC's Dream Up Festival, 8/31-9/10

In 'Medusa' and 'The Oddity' (medusaandtheoddity.wordpress.com), playwright William Hugel takes an impressionistic look at the stigma of mental illness and the declining power of women in society. The plays, directed by Chad Chenail, will have their world premieres August 31 to September 10 in Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival 2015.
