Tony Winner Edward Herrmann Dies at 71

Tony winner Edward Herrmann died today at age 71. The star had been battling brain cancer, and had been in the ICU according to TMZ, who broke the news.

New FIRST WIVES CLUB Musical Meets Chicago with Help from Motown Trio

FLASH SPECIAL: Sondheim By The Decade, Part 3 - 1990s & 2000s

The feature film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved fairy tale musical INTO THE WOODS is coming to movie theaters nationwide on Christmas Day and BroadwayWorld celebrates the man behind the music and lyrics with a new series highlighting the work of the iconic composer and lyricist, finishing today with a look at his work in the 1990s and 2000s.

First Wives Club, a new Broadway-bound musical, will soon premiere at Chicago's Oriental Theatre. Tony Award-winner Faith Prince will play 'Brenda,' Mamma Mia's Christine Sherrill will play 'Elise,' and Wicked star Carmen Cusack will play 'Annie,' in the iconic roles created on film by Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton, respectively. With a book by five-time Emmy Award nominee Linda Bloodworth Thomason, direction by Simon Phillips and songs by Motown legends Holland-Dozier-Holland, First Wives Club: The Musical will have its out-of-town premiere at Chicago's Oriental Theatre (24 W Randolph Street). Previews begin February 17, 2015 and opening night is set for March 11, 2015 for a run that will go through March 29, 2015. Below, watch as the songwriting team chats about creating the new musical!

Possum Point Players To Hold Auditions for New Christmas Show, 9/21-22

On Sunday, September 21st at 5 PM, and Monday, September 22nd at 7 PM, the Possum Point Players (PPP) and director Donna deKuyper will conduct audition for an original Christmas show "Hollywood Holiday." The show will be performed December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14.

Rover Dramawerks has announced their Fifteen Season of plays "off the beaten path." The fact that this will be their first full season in their new theatre venue makes this milestone anniversary even more special. Rover will present seven plays and two One Day Only 24-hour play festivals, starting with The Fourth Wall, by A. R. Gurney, directed by Andi Allen, running October 23 - November 15, 2014.

The reviews for Leonard Gershe's Butterflies Are Free were unanimously raves when it opened on Broadway in 1969, and the play ended up winning a number of awards that season. The play focuses on Don Baker, blind since birth, whose over-protective mother is forced to come to terms with her son's bid for independence when he sets up in a Manhattan apartment on his own. He soon makes the acquaintance of his off-the-wall, liberated, actress neighbor Jill. Don learns the kind of things from Jill that his mother would never have taught him! And Jill learns from Don what growing up and being free is really all about.
