The L.A Gay & Lesbian Center, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles, will present the next event in the Center's ongoing series of free public discussions, Big Queer Convo.
The artists present "Die Jahrhundertwende," a program featuring songs by two of the last great romantic Lieder composers (Wolf and Brahms) and two pioneers of modernity (Schoenberg and Berg). Along with two less famous but exceptionally interesting transitional figures (Zemlinsky and Pfitzner), the program explores the astonishing variety in German Song during this pivotal 15 years.
This season the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre will program the following performances, in September - November 2012, The Impresario (Der Schauspieldirektor) - W.A. Mozart (Sept. 30 in a special setting: with operalunch) and in November - December 2012: The amazing journey of Doctor Faust.
Charlotte Jones' Airswimming will get its area premiere as part of the seventh annual Capital Fringe Festival. Inspired by true events, Airswimming tells the story of two women who are incarcerated in an asylum for sexual deviancy and having a child out of wedlock in 1920s England. Forgotten by their families, the two women form a bond over their 50 year imprisonment in an alternate reality inspired by the one and only Doris Day.

Including LE POÈME HARMONIQUE IN "VENEZIA," on opening night, eight intriguing composer portraits, featuring John Cage, Jonathan Harvey, Olga Neuwirth, Sofia Gubaidulina, Enno Poppe, Rebeecca Saunders, Oliver Knussen and Julio Estrada. The Museum of Modern Art, in association with the Munich Film Museum and the Goethe-Institut New York, presents the first comprehensive North American retrospective of German film, theater, and opera director Werner Schroeter (1945-2010).
Presented in collaboration with the represented country's consulates general and cultural institutions, the International Voices Project will celebrate the voices of international playwrights with eight premiere concert-style readings of selected plays that will be performed by a professional cast with stage directions read to allow audiences imaginations to create the world of the play. After each reading, there will be a post-performance discussion with the cast and audience, followed by a reception hosted by the consulates.
