David Garrison Joins Block, Olivo in 2nd Stage's BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK This Season

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) has announced that DAVID GARRISON will complete the cast of Lynn Nottage's new play, BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK. This world premiere comedy will also feature the previously announced STEPHANIE J. BLOCK, DANIEL BREAKER, KIMBERLY HÉBERT GREGORY, KEVIN ISOLA, SANAA LATHAN, and KAREN OLIVO. Directed by Jo Bonney, BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK is Ms. Nottage's first play to be produced in New York since she won the Pulitzer Prize for Ruined in 2009.

Northwestern University Announces March Events

The Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University continues its 30th anniversary season with 'The State(s) of America: The Regina Taylor Project' (March 4 to 6). The one-weekend-only festival of original works by Northwestern faculty and students is curated by Hollywood actress and visiting artist Regina Taylor.

Geva Theatre Center announces that Richard Brooks, best known to TV viewers as Assistant D.A. Paul Robinette in NBC's 'Law & Order' and bounty hunter Jubal Early in 'Firefly' will play the central role of Harmond Wilks in its forthcoming production of August Wilson's Radio Golf in the Mainstage March 22 - April 17.

Matthew Morrison Set For Goodman Theatre Gala, 5/21

Screen and stage heartthrob Matthew Morrison takes a break from his Glee television classroom to headline Goodman Theatre's May 21 Gala to celebrate 'One Enchanted Decade' on Dearborn Street. The Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony-Award nominated 'triple-threat' (LA Times) has captivated audiences of all ages. 'Blessed with a boyish innocence and beautiful voice' (Playbill), Morrison lights up both the stage and small screen with his mesmerizing talent. The black-tie gala event begins with a cocktail reception at the Goodman (170 N. Dearborn), followed by Morrison's performance in the 856-seat Albert Theatre. The festivities continue as guests shuttle to The Fairmont Hotel (200 N. Columbus) for an elegant dinner and dancing to the tunes of the Al Sofia Orchestra. All proceeds benefit the Goodman's Educational and Community Engagement programs.

RED, RACE, et al. Set for Goodman Theatre's 2011 Season

It's a 'red hot' line-up! Artistic Director Robert Falls announces five of eight play selections in Goodman Theatre's upcoming 2011/2012 subscription season-beginning with his production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway sensation Red, by John Logan, in September. Next in the Albert Theatre, Resident Director Chuck Smith stages David Mamet's Race in a Chicago premiere, following its acclaimed Broadway run. The Goodman then welcomes Spanish director Calixto Bieito, known for his radical opera stagings, in his American theater debut with a new interpretation of the rarely-produced Camino Real by Tennessee Williams. The season concludes on a high note with Regina Taylor's musical Crowns-revived for its 10th anniversary. In the Owen Theatre, rising star playwright Danai Gurira brings her world-premiere production of The Convert, a stand-out offering in the Goodman's recent New Stages new play reading series. Still to be announced are three plays-including a collaboration with Chicago's Teatro Vista. The 2011/2012 season also includes the 34th annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Arsht Center Celebrates Black History Month 2011

Now celebrating its Fifth Anniversary Season, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly presents Black History Month 2011. The Adrienne Arsht Center is preparing to host a variety of activities and performances celebrating the African Diaspora throughout the month of February. These include the gospel musical CROWNS, FESTEJO: PERU NEGRO & EVA AYLLON, RHAW/RENNIE HARRIS AWE-INSPIRING WORKS, FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS WITH KURT CARR, ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER, and JAZZ ROOTS: CELEBRATING MILES.

Goodman Theatre Cancels TRINITY RIVER PLAYS, 2/2

Due to anticipated severe weather conditions, Goodman Theatre will cancel its Wednesday, February 2 performance of The Trinity River Plays at 7:30pm. All ticket holders will be contacted by the theater in order to exchange tickets for another date. Subscribers only can exchange online: visit www.GoodmanTheatre.org. Melba Moore In The Gospel Musical 'Crowns' Presented By Arsht Center And M Ensemble Company

Two of Miami's most respected performing arts organizations are collaborating to bring the gospel musical CROWNS to South Florida audiences during Black History Month 2011. The M Ensemble Company opens its 2010-2011 season with its debut performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County with the gospel musical CROWNS by Regina Taylor. Adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry, CROWNS runs from February 2-6, 2011 in the Adrienne Arsht Center's Carnival Studio Theater.
