Washington National Opera (WNO) opens its 2015-2016 season with a newto-Washington staging of Georges Bizet's popular classic Carmen, September 19 to October 3 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Starring two French mezzo-sopranos-Clémentine Margaine and Géraldine Chauvet- in the title role, this production also showcases two stars of flamenco dance, principal dancers Timo Nuñez (Fox's So You Think You Can Dance) and Fanny Ara. The production is staged by American director E. Loren Meeker and the WNO Orchestra is led by American conductor Evan Rogister. A special performance on Friday, October 2 features casting by current singers and alumni of WNO's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program.

Wedow, Abell, Polianichko and Allen to Conduct Lyric Opera of Kansas City's 2015-16 Season

Lyric Opera of Kansas City General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the four conductors for the 2015-2016 season in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Gary Thor Wedow (pictured, left, Mozart's Don Giovanni), and David Charles Abell (Bizet's Carmen) will be returning to the Lyric Opera. Alexander Polianichko (Dvorak's Rusalka) and Christopher Allen (Donizetti's The Elixir of Love) will be making their Lyric Opera debut.

Heightening its role as a powerful commissioning force, Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center - The Music Center's acclaimed dance series - is introducing an exciting new chapter in dance with the world premiere of BalletNow, an original three-performance program for which American Ballet Theatre Principals Roberto Bolle and Herman Cornejo are serving as artistic directors. Bolle and Cornejo have formed an international ensemble of 18 major dancers from 12 foreign countries for three distinctive performances, with many of the dancers performing at The Music Center and in Southern California for the first time.

(NEW ROCHELLE, NY) May 25, 2015 – New Rochelle Opera's year-long 30th anniversary celebration reaches its apex with a revival of Georges Bizet's CARMEN from June 25-28, 2015 in the Frank J. Auriana Theatre at the Ursuline School, 1345 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. The production will be staged by Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola, with orchestra and chorus conducted by Gregory Ortega. As in previous years, the production will feature the use of English supertitles to translate the French text.

After a two year absence the Atlantic City Ballet returns to The Strand Theater in Lakewood, NJ with their sexy performance of Bizet's Carmen. The Strand Theater has hosted the ballet in the past with performances of Dracula and Nutcracker and the original premier of Carmen. "We were disappointed that these last two years, we could not include The Strand in our touring dates." says Ms. Papa, "but we are so excited to be back and to have the opportunity to build an audience in this area of the state." The ballet is planning to perform at the Strand at least three times during their season. In September they will bring Ballet Goes Broadway, December will bring back The Nutcracker and in March they will perform Visions. "We are always excited to present at The Strand. It's such a majestic theater and it really showcases the company. All of our ballets look beautiful on that stage." remarked Papa.

Peter Brook's pared down LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN is perfect for Opera in the Heights, but it lacks the magic and richness of Georges Bizet's CARMEN. However, if you combine all that is good about Brook's LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN with the talented cast and crew of Opera in the Heights, you have a good time on your hands.
