Celebrating the themes of expression and unity amidst the dynamic diversity of South Florida and the United States just four days before the Presidential election, Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony will ask guests to dress to "express themselves" and come together at the iconic multimedia cultural event Friday, November 4, 2016, at the New World Center (500 17th Street).

South Florida's own DJ Le Spam and the Spam Allstars will be the featured guest performers at the event, which integrates contemporary classical, electronic music and video in a multi-sensory experience, allowing audiences to participate in a classical music event like never before.

Also featured on the program will be Cuban-American mezzo-soprano Mabel Ledo, who has been praised by the New York Times as "a warm, expressive mezzo-soprano." The event will be conducted by NWS Conducting Fellow Dean Whiteside.

The first orchestral set, "Spanish Inspirations," will include the Spanish Dance from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, as well as selections from Georges Bizet's Carmen, including The Toreadors, Aragonaise, Habanera and others. The second orchestral set, "American Voices," will feature selections from works by Philip Glass, John Harbison, Timo Andres and Roshanne Etezady. The evening will culminate with the world premiere of Jo (Unity), a new work by Nu Deco Ensemble co-founder and NWS alumnus Sam Hyken, commissioned for the orchestra, DJ Le Spam and the Spam Allstars (see full program below).

"Pulse Unplugged," a 15-minute set of orchestral music set in the style of MTV's Unplugged series, will return for the next installment of Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony, as well. After the second orchestral set inside the concert hall, Fellows will perform ensemble pieces without amplification in the pristine and intimate environment of SunTrust Pavilion.

The event-now in its seventh season-utilizes the flexibility of the New World Center's concert hall, simulating a late-night lounge setting, featuring projections to accompany the electronic music. New World Symphony Fellows perform in numerous spaces throughout the hall, on stage lifts, as well as portions of the main stage that are flush with the floor. Additionally, the hall's seating is retracted, allowing attendees to walk among the performers, dance and socialize throughout the evening.

This Pulse event is included as part of the Friends of NWS membership, and Friends members at the VIP level and above have access to an exclusive pre-concert event on the roof of the New World Center. The young patrons group engages a younger generation with innovative New World Symphony events and chic after-hours events, supporting the continued growth of America's Orchestral Academy.

Individual tickets to Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony start at just $40 and are available by calling the New World Symphony Box Office at 305.673.3331, or online at www.nws.edu. Additional information about the New World Symphony may be found online at www.nws.edu.
