Natalie Douglas brings a brand new show to Birdland next Monday, June 8th at 7pm. Entitled 'The Heart of the Matter,' it is a collection of songs that transfixed Natalie as a child and teenager in Los Angeles. These are the songs that she would listen to over and over in her bedroom, crying, laughing and, of course, singing as she discovered the power of music and how it could indeed, reach to The Heart of the Matter with intelligent lyrics, beautiful melodies and that dash of magic.

Their music became the soundtrack for the Twentieth Century and saw America through some of her darkest days of the Great Depression and the tumultuous years of World War II. George and Ira Gershwin, the song-writing brothers penned such standards as ?They Can?t Take That Away from Me,? ?Embraceable You,? and ?I Got Rhythm.? Unfortunately, the books behind the musicals for which they were writing could not hold a candle to the music. That is, until Ken Ludwig stepped in more than 50 years after George Gershwin died to rework the story behind the Gershwin?s Girl Crazy (1930). The result was the 1992 Tony Award winning?including Best Musical?Broadway smash hit musical Crazy for You, which will be on the Theatre at the Center stage, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana, May 7 through June 14. Press opening will be May 14 at 8 p.m.

For the fourth consecutive year, The Cleveland Play House presents FusionFest, the only multidisciplinary performing arts festival at a regional theatre in the country, from April 29-May 10, 2009. The festival will offer a sampling of international and 'other-worldly' works, including an ancient Japanese art form, Dogugaeshi, by master puppeteer Basil Twist, performances by Charles Ross of his One-Man Star Wars Trilogy, and a world-premiere adaptation of Thorton Wilder's comic novel Heaven's My Destination, by Tony-award nominee Lee Blessing and commissioned by The Play House expressly for FusionFest with support from The Roe Green Foundation.
