Film Society of Lincoln Center Announces Summer Late-Night Film Series

he Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the continuation of a summer tradition of showcasing great genre classics to beat the heat. Following the tradition of last summer's popular "Midnight Movies" series, each film in the new "Freaky Friday" series will kick off the weekend at 11pm and have the same weekly blend of mind-melting, gross-out horror as well as some rarely screened classic cult favorites in glorious 35mm, curated by Film Society programmer and Film Comment Editor Gavin Smith.

Film Society of Lincoln Center to Host An Evening with Alfonso Cuaron, 2/13

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today An Evening with Alfonso Cuarón, on Thursday, February 13. The evening will include the Oscar-nominated director in person to present a screening of his latest award-winning and 10-time Oscar-nominated film Gravity, immediately followed by a conversation and then a screening of his 2006 critically acclaimed film Children of Men. The conversation will be moderated by Film Comment magazine editor-in-chief, Gavin Smith. Tickets on sale now at Filmlinc.com.

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, 12 YEARS A SLAVE & BEFORE MIDNIGHT Top Film Comment's 2013 Best of Year List

Film Comment's annual end-of-the-year survey of film critics, journalists, film section editors, and past and present contributors was released today with Joel & Ethan Coen's INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, Steve McQueen's 12 YEARS A SLAVE and Richard Linklater's BEFORE MIDNIGHT taking the top spots among films released in 2013. Among films that made appearances at film festivals or special screenings worldwide, but haven't been picked up for stateside distribution as of yet, Philippe Garrel's JEALOUSY, Tsai Ming-liang's STRAY DOGS and Joaquim Pinto's WHAT NOW? REMIND ME received the top rankings.

Joaquin Phoenix Explains Motivations for Spike Jonze's HER at NY Film Festival

Spike Jonze's HER, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Scarlett Johansson will make its World Premiere as the Closing Night Gala presentation for the upcoming 51st New York Film FestivalThe AP reports that the usually press-shy Phoenix was talkative as a post-screening panel, and explained his motivation for the character. Ben Stiller's SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY Premieres at NYFF Tonight

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced that Ben Stiller's highly anticipated adaptation of James Thurber's classic short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which also stars Stiller alongside Kristen Wiig, will make its World Premiere tonight, October 5 as the Centerpiece Gala presentation for the 51st New York Film Festival (September 27 - October 13).

2013 NYFF Announces HBO Directors Dialogues Lineup, Emerging Artists & Shorts Programs

The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) announced today its 2013 NYFF HBO Directors Dialoguesparticipants will be Richard Curtis, Paul Greengrass, Agnieszka Holland and Frederick Wiseman and the popular HBO On Cinemaconversation will feature James Gray. FSLC also announced the selection of Joanna Hogg and Fernando Eimbcke as the two filmmakers whose work will be screened and celebrated as NYFF's Emerging Artists this year, as well as the selections for NYFF's Shorts Programs.

NYFF to Present Jean-Luc Godard Retrospective, DAZED AND CONFUSED Anniversary Screening

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that the 51st New York Film Festival (NYFF,September 27 – October 13) will serve as the launching pad for a retrospective of filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard's work. The film series, entitled Jean-Luc Godard - The Spirit of the Forms, will begin during the second week of the festival, on October 9, and continue through the end of the month, October 30. (Specifics for the schedule and titles playing after NYFF will be distributed next week.) This year's NYFF will also play host to the 20th Anniversary screening of Richard Linklater's DAZED AND CONFUSED on October 10 at 9PM, presented by New Wave, and with the director and members of the cast in attendance.

12 YEARS A SLAVE to Premiere at New York Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Film Comment Magazine announced today that they will host the U.S. premiere of Steve McQueen's new film, 12 Years A Slave, on Tuesday, October 8that the New York Film Festival.

Premieres, Panels & More Announced for Film Society of Lincoln Center's 2013 NYFF Convergence

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the details for the 2013 NYFF Convergence, which will run on Saturday, September 28 through Monday, September 30. Building on the success of last year's debut, the second edition of the crowning event for the Film Society of Lincoln Center's year round programming commitment to transmedia will be presented at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center and the Walter Reade Theater with three days of panels, workshops and “immersive experiences.” This year's edition will also feature a special secret event to close out NYFF Convergence that will be announced at a later date.
