Currently in rehearsal at the Union Square Theatre, HAIR begins preview performances on Friday, March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, 2009. On February 14, Valentine's Day, the cast of HAIR celebrated the day of love (and the day some say the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars) by going into Union Square during their lunch break (they're rehearsing a block away!) to spread the love by passing at flowers and giving an impromptu performance of 'Aquarius.'

Newcomers to the cast include Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen, who join the rest of the tribe, who are reprising their roles from Central Park last summer. Over consecutive days this week, the 26-member Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, has been announced by Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater. The cast will begin rehearsals this morning at the Union Square Theater. The final HAIR cast members to be confirmed are Sasha Allen (Dionne, White Boys Trio), Caissie Levy (Sheila), Megan Lawrence (Mother), Bryce Ryness (Woof) and Will Swenson (Berger).

The special star-studded evening will feature performers from stage & screen - from Saturday Night Live to Spring Awakening - all to benefit Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force. 100% of the profits from this spectacular event will be donated directly to Family Equality Council, Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality California, Garden State Equality, and The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force, five charitable organizations working to promote equality and protect civil rights for the gay and lesbian community. Defying Inequality: The Broadway Concert, A Celebrity Benefit for Equal Rights, is produced by 4Good Productions, the same presenters of the 2005 event Broadway's Celebrity Benefit for Hurricane Relief at the Gershwin Theatre. The New York Times presented a starry line up of guests for the Eighth Annual Arts & Leisure Weekend, Jan. 8 to 11. The Times's signature event is a four-day international celebration of the arts with a wide range of activities, from interviews between Times journalists and celebrated guests from the arts, film, music, media and politics, to special offers at cultural institutions around the world. All TimesTalk events are held at TheTimesCenter, 242 West 41st Street. BWW was there as the HAIR family met the press.
