Iván Fischer returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Schubert's The Shepherd on the Rock (orchestrated by Reinecke) with Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill and soprano Miah Persson; Schubert's Symphony No. 5; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4, Wednesday, November 7, 2018, 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, November 10 at 8:00 p.m.

The Andrew Park Foundation has named composers June Young Kim (South Korea) and Joseph Lee (USA) prize-winners in the Foundation's first annual Andrew Park Composition Prize. Messrs. Kim and Lee will each receive a cash prize valued at $1,500 and will have their new works premiered at New York's Merkin Concert Hall on Sunday, December 16, 2018, 3 p.m.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its Fall 2018 season on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 7:30pm with the New York-based chamber ensemble yMusic at BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater (450 W. 37th Street). yMusic applies its virtuosic execution and unique ensemble configuration (string trio, flute, clarinet, and trumpet) to New York Premieres by two of today's foremost composers – Bryce Dessner and Nico Muhly – and additional works by Gabriel Kahane,Gabriella Smith, and Andrew Norman.

The New York Philharmonic announces details for the two new-music series it is inaugurating in the 2018-19 season: GRoW @ Annenberg Sound ON and Kravis Nightcap. Both series present the music of today in casual settings, hosted by The Marie-Josee Kravis Creative Partner Nadia Sirota, who will engage in conversation with the composers and performers.

DIRECT CURRENT, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts's two-week celebration of contemporary culture, returns for a second season. Training its focus on new works, interdisciplinary creations in which artistic worlds collide, and creative responses to topical concerns, the 2019 spring immersion showcases some of the most provocative, original, and pioneering voices in the arts today. DIRECT CURRENT takes place on March 25-April 7 at the Kennedy Center and beyond, extending throughout the District of Columbia through collaborations with a number of alternative venues, to expand the growing audience for contemporary culture in the nation's capital.

UCLA's Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) and The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles will once again team up to present 14 bold programs by leading innovators and acknowledged masters in contemporary dance, music, theater and literature, featuring pioneering champions for social justice and diverse world views. Offering more than 40 unique events and 60 performances, CAP UCLA's new season runs from September 22, 2018, to May 10, 2019, and will open and close with programs at Ace.

Andrew Bird is set for a run of orchestral tour dates in select U.S. cities this fall, performing alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra. The final shows of the tour in Washington, DC mark Bird's Kennedy Center debut, where alongside the National Symphony Orchestra he will perform with musician, composer and orchestrator Gabriel Kahane, who has conceived innovative orchestrations of Bird's songs. Building on PUC's long history of offering the absolute pinnacle of talent, the concerts and initiatives will blur the lines of genre, build new relationships between audiences and performers, and expand the boundaries of the concert experience.

The new music ensemble, International Street Cannibals (ISC), presents "The Easily Satisfied Lover" - an evening of vocal works from the period of early modernism, which turns its lens on archaic male narratives of romance and reframes them through the voice and sensibility of a 21st century woman. Central to the evening is the performance of Arnold Schoenberg's monodrama, Pierrot Lunaire, op. 21 (1912) - a fantastical setting of 21 poems by Belgian symbolist poet Albert Giraud and freely translated in German by Otto Erich Hartleben. The program is a creation of soprano Ariadne Greif, Los Angeles-based director Gray Palmer, and ISC's founder/director Dan Barrett. It features conducting by maestro Christopher Lyndon-Gee; film footage by Swiss-Japanese filmmaker Caroline Mariko Stucky, especially created for this performance; and technical direction and stage management by Tyler Learned.

Immersive, innovative, intimate, ingenious- Manual Cinema combines the old and the new, from shadows created on vintage projectors to innovative multi-media storytelling with multiple screens and live cameras.  They come to the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) on Sunday, March 18 at 3pm, following debuts in Australia, France, and Germany.
