Kathleen Capdesuner Named Third Directing Fellow at Roundabout

Roundabout Theatre Company announces the newest addition to the artistic team: Directing Fellow Kathleen Capdesuner. Capdesuner is the third Roundabout Directing Fellow; this season she is assisting Daniel Aukin (Apologia), James Macdonald (True West) and Margot Bordelon (Something Clean), working with the theatre's artistic team as a script reader, and using Roundabout's resources to develop her own projects.

City Opera Vancouver presents the astonishing and macabre operatic thriller, Nigredo Hotel, on September 20 - 22, 2018 at 8pm at The Cultch Historic Theatre. This one-act chamber opera directed by Alan Corbishley, with music by Nic Gotham and libretto by distinguished Canadian author and playwright Ann-Marie MacDonald, tells the tale of an encounter between a beautiful but crazed hotelier and a brain surgeon who seeks refuge after a traumatic car accident. Internationally renowned opera stars Tyler Duncan and Sarah Vardy will perform a brilliant Jungian-inspired combat between two of the most unusual characters in 20th century opera, backed by a four-player jazz combo.

BWW Review: Rollins Players' TIME STANDS STILL Delivers Emotional Journey

More often than not in the coverage of war, while we are presented with ghastly images, the focus is on the larger strategies and total body-counts of battle. We rarely hear the harrowing stories of the innocent lives destroyed by conflict; even less frequently do we see how war impacts those who bring us those ghastly images and harrowing stories. In David Margulies' TIME STANDS STILL, two individuals are forced to deal with the physical and emotional scars left from years of covering war-torn countries. Last weekend the Rollins Players, a student-run organization, tackled this challenging work in the campus' intimate Fred Stone Theatre, with inspiring results.
