VON USSAR danceworks to Present The Dance Gallery Festival, 10/24-26

VON USSAR danceworks presents the 8th Annual The Dance Gallery Festival, featuring original works from emerging and renowned choreographers from around the country in three performance programs on October 24, 25, and 26, 2014 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, 405 W. 55th Street, NYC (at Ninth Avenue). The Dance Gallery will perform on Friday, October 24 at 7:30pm and Sunday, October 26 at 3pm. The Dance Gallery UP Close will perform on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. Level UP will perform on Sunday, October 26 at 7pm. Tickets are $20 (general admission for Dance Gallery and Dance Gallery UP Close) and are available at www.smarttix.com or by phone at 212-868-4444. Peter Sander and Theatre Arts Japan to Present ROBINSON (TO) CRUSOE at Hudson Guild Theatre, 8/28-31

Director of Drama Desk nominated performance 'Vivien', Peter Sander collaborates with Theatre Arts Japan (Eriko Ogawa, Artistic Director), and theater company Ku Na'u Ka's music director/composer/percussionist Hiroko Tanakawa to present work of Japan's master playwright, Asaya Fujita's 'Robinson (to) Crusoe', an adaptation of D'Introna and Ravicchio's comedy, 'Robinson and Crusoe'.

Inception to Exhibition to Host First Annual Dance Festival, 3/12-14

Inception to Exhibition (ITE), NYC's only interdisciplinary arts organization fostering artist incubation, announces it's first annual dance festival. Over the five-day festival, March 12-14, 2014, ITE will bring together some of NYC's most talented emerging and established choreographers for an immersive focus on contemporary concert dance. Bob Degus to Direct Rita Hayworth-Centric PRIVATE DANCER at The Lion Theatre, 12/1-21

Sage Snakechalmer's 'Private Dancer,' a unique theatrical experience combining theatre, dance and film, boldly explores the personal struggles of Rita Hayworth. The show receives its world premiere at The Lion Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street, beginning Sunday December 1. Written by and starring Snakechalmer, 'Private Dancer' is directed by Bob Degus -- the producer of two Academy Award-nominated short films -- who also directs the show's component filmed elements.

NY Phil and Giants Are Small Open A DANCER'S DREAM Tonight

The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - tonight, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

The Group Theatre Too (GTT) recently presented its sixth annual Choreographer's Canvas, a one-night event featuring the works of over fifteen established and emerging choreographers from around the country. The Canvas, headed by GTT Executive Producer Justin Boccitto, played at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center on Saturday May 18th and showcased many styles of dance including tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, theatre dance, aerial and this year swing dance. For the past 6 years the Canvas has presented over 65 choreographers, giving opportunity to over 450 dancers performing to sold houses. Check out photos from the event below!

Faye Miller, Bill Young and More Celebrate Barnard Women Through Dance at Miller Theatre, 4/12-13

Brains, spirited beauty and dancing feet, that's what Barnard women are made of. And the choreographers commissioned to create new works for them - Faye Driscoll, Bill Young, Francesca Harper and Heidi Henderson - for two days of performances at the Miller Theatre, tonight, April 12 and tomorrow, April 13, take full advantage of their gifts.
