Bob Degus to Direct Rita Hayworth-Centric PRIVATE DANCER at The Lion Theatre, 12/1-21

By:

Sage Snakechalmer's "Private Dancer," a unique theatrical experience combining theatre, dance and film, boldly explores the personal struggles of Rita Hayworth. The show receives its world premiere at The Lion Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street, beginning Sunday December 1. Written by and starring Snakechalmer, "Private Dancer" is directed by Bob Degus -- the producer of two Academy Award-nominated short films -- who also directs the show's component filmed elements.

The show's opening is set for Thursday December 5 at 8pm. It plays through Saturday December 21.

For this highly idiosyncratic combined-media stage play Snakechalmer and Degus are working with the choreographer Francesca Harper, sound designer Lisa K. Fowle, production designer Abigail Benavides, and lighting designer Joshua Rose. Music is by Brian Ralston whose original score was recorded by the legendary Hollywood Studio Symphony.

In "Private Dancer" a beautiful face masks suffering and loneliness, problems with alcohol, a heart of gold and a free spirit. As she struggles internally with her carefully constructed public persona, Rita Hayworth emerges from the depths of her own denial, ready to stand up for herself. But will she take the next step? An actor, dancer and published poet, Snakechalmer segued from her life in modeling and sports into the world of fashion and fine art photography, where she ran a successful management, licensing and Production Company with international clients. Drawing on her own experiences with addiction, she became fascinated with Hayworth's unique and little-documented attempts to lead a life of truth and authentic fulfillment. This is Snakechalmer's professional stage debut.

Proceeds from this production are being donated to the Alzheimer's Association, New York City Chapter.

"Private Dancer" plays 16 performances from December 1 through December 21 at The Lion Theatre on Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street. Performances are Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat at 8pm; Sun at 3pm with an added show on Monday December 2 at 7pm. For tickets, which are $35, call Telecharge at 212/239-6200, or visit www.telecharge.com or www.privatedancertheplay.com
