A star-studded host committee, Academy Awards nominees and presenters, along with some of the most powerful industry influencers came together on March 3 rd, 2018 for the 16 th annual 'Night Before' party to benefit MPTF. Funds raised during the legendary evening will be used to support MPTF in providing social services and financial assistance to the entertainment community, as well as it's renowned retirement community and innovative programs for seniors and those who care for them. The organization impacts thousands of people each year who have committed their lives to a career in entertainment. The annual event raised $5 million last night, totaling just over $80 million in the event's history.

Broadway's newest intimate concert venue – has announced the solo debut of Mykal Kilgore, the celebrated vocalist from The Wiz Live! on NBC TV, Postmodern Jukebox, Motown on Broadway and more, for a two night concert engagement Friday, March 9 at 9:30 PM and Saturday, March 10 at 7:00 PM. These shows will feature original music from Mykal's upcoming album and covers of some of music's most heralded pop favorites with a Kilgore twist. After performances for “The View,” the Mayor of New York, and Brooklyn Nets, these live intimate shows powerfully return Kilgore to the concert stage.
During the Annual General Meeting held earlier today, the Shaw Festival announced positive financial results for the 2017 season while celebrating the many wins of Artistic Director Tim Carroll's first season which welcomed 236,824 audience members to 783 performances, including the newly added production of A Christmas Carol. The season introduced Shaw Festival patrons to Mr. Carroll's vision of The Shaw as a Two-Way Theatre - where the audience has a real voice and is not excluded from any aspect of The Shaw's work.

As magical as the evening was, after Freddie Gershon gave an impassioned presentation to the duo, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones hit the stage and brought the house down at ages 88 and 89 respectively. They joined forces onstage to perform a song from their musical The Bone Room, described by Jones as being about 'the pleasures of dying and being embalmed in this great country of ours.' In the Playmaking program, children from the Chelsea public school PS 11 enroll in a 12-week playwriting course, led by Daniel Judah Sklar and Kim Greene. The program was originally developed in conjunction with Circle in the Square Theatre School, and adapted from Daniel Sklar's book, Playmaking: Children Writing and Performing Their Own Plays. Six weeks through the workshop, each child finishes his/her own imaginative play. Professional actors then read each one aloud. They also help the kids transform their first scripts into realistic ones. All the final plays are rehearsed, and then performed on the Broadway stage at Circle in the Square.
Q. Smith, featured cast member of Broadway's Come From Away, is set to host the 10th annual New York City August Wilson Monologue Competition, sponsored by LEAP (Learning through an Expanded Arts Program, Inc.). A total of 16 LEAP students from eight New York City high schools in four boroughs will inhabit Wilson's extraordinary characters and provide their unique interpretations. Tony Chiroldes, original Broadway cast member of In the Heights, will be a featured singer as well. The exciting presentation begins at 7 pm on Monday, March 5, and will be held on Stage 2 of New World Stages, 340 W. 50th St., New York, N.Y., off 8th Avenue. The event is free to the public.
Gallery 30 South, Pasadena's popular gallery for internationally renowned artists has announced the first-ever solo art exhibition of multiple Platinum recording artist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chuck D from Public Enemy and Prophets of Rage. The exhibition titled "Behind the Seen" features some of Chuck D's most prolific artwork to date. The exhibit opens Sunday, March 4, 2018 and runs through the month.
