Blockchain Theater Project (BTP), founded by Sofia Alvarez and Nicola Korzenko, is a new theater company that empowers artists to produce the work they create, funded in part by cryptocurrency donations. Like Bitcoin and other blockchains, BTP eliminates the institutional gatekeeper, creating a peer-to-peer model of support where the next play to be produced will be nominated by the playwright of the current production. Alvarez's NYLON will start this chain.
Victoria Theatre Association and Shango: Center for The Study of African-American Art and Culture presents the annual Visual Voices exhibit, DAYTON SKYSCRAPERS. The 2019 DAYTON SKYSCRAPERS exhibit, located in the Orchestra Lobby of the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, features art created by local African-American artists that reflects the broad and diverse career fields of African- Americans in the Miami Valley. The exhibit runs Feb. 5- March 31, 2019, and is free to the public.
Civic Theatre brings Harper Lee's classic, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD to the stage February 8-23, 2019. Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced today the winners of the 31st annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, which took place in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Theater Center. This is the third year the Concert of Arias was streamed live on Facebook, and the second for livestreaming on YouTube. The livestream was hosted by HGO Studio alumna Andrea Carroll. She is currently performing in The Pearl Fishers as Le la and placed first in the 2012 Concert of Arias. The winners were announced during the second portion of the program.
