The New York Times is reporting that the Off-Broadway musical 'The Scottsboro Boys' will not be transferring to Broadway as expected, at least for now.
Colman Domingo - currently appearing in the cast of the world-premiere musical THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) - received the 21st annual GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Broadway/Off-Broadway production for his solo play, 'A BOY AND HIS SOUL,' it was announced on Saturday, March 13. 'A BOY AND HIS SOUL,' written and performed by Mr. Domingo, had its world-premiere at the Vineyard Theatre in the fall of 2009.
The Tony Award-winning Vineyard Theatre will present the world-premiere of the new musical THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, with music and lyrics by Tony Award-winners John Kander and Fred Ebb, book by David Thompson and directed by Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman with musical direction by David Loud. Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that heavy-hitting producers Fran and Barry Weissler have invested $400,000 into THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, and writes that 'If the reviews are strong, they'll move it to a small Broadway house, very possibly before this year's Tony cutoff date, should a theater become available.'
