Colman Domingo - currently appearing in the cast of the world-premiere musical THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) - received the 21st annual GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Broadway/Off-Broadway production for his solo play, 'A BOY AND HIS SOUL,' it was announced on Saturday, March 13. 'A BOY AND HIS SOUL,' written and performed by Mr. Domingo, had its world-premiere at the Vineyard Theatre in the fall of 2009.

Mr. Domingo's win marks the second straight year that a Vineyard production has won the Broadway/Off-Broadway award from GLAAD: Tarell Alvin McCraney received the same honor last year for his popular hit play WIG OUT!, which debuted at the Vineyard in the fall of 2008.

Vineyard Theatre artistic director Douglas Aibel says, "We're so proud of Colman's great accomplishment in winning the GLAAD Award for 'A BOY AND HIS SOUL.' He has been an incredible creative presence at the Vineyard Theatre this season, first with his powerful one-man show, and with his virtuoso work in 'THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS.' He is a shining light at our theatre."

The Vineyard Theatre production of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS has sold out its entire run, through April 18, according to Mr. Aibel. A two-week extension of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, announced last week prior to the musical's official opening night on March 10, sold out in record time, breaking all previous box office records at the Vineyard.

A popular hit since it began previews on February 12, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS has become a critical hit, as well. Written by the legendary songwriters John Kander and the late Fred Ebb, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS has direction and choreography Susan Stroman and a book by David Thompson.

THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS is a new musical that explores the infamous 1930's 'Scottsboro Case', in which a group of innocent African-American teenagers are falsely accused of a terrible crime -- ultimately provoking a national outrage that sparked the American Civil Rights movement. The 13-member ensemble features Tony Award-winning actor John Cullum, Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon, Forrest McClendon and Colman Domingo.
The Vineyard run is sold out, with a cancellation line that starts two hours before curtain at the theatre. But...THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS have their sights set on Broadway! Patrons can go to vineyardtheatre.org and sign up now to be the first to know and get an EXCLUSIVE TICKET OFFER. Stay tuned!

This spring - with previews set to begin May 4 prior to an official opening night on May 19 -- Vineyard Theatre will present the world-premiere of Adam Rapp's play THE METAL CHILDREN, directed by Mr. Rapp and starring Billy Crudup in the role of a New York writer who has an explosive encounter with a small American town that he travels to in order to defend one of his young adult novels, which has been banned by the local school board. The controversy ignites heated emotions over religious beliefs and censorship.

Also this spring, The Vineyard will produce the world premiere of the new musical THE BURNT PART BOYS by Mariana Elder, Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller, directed by Joe Colarco, in co-production with Playwrights Horizons.
