André De Shields, Ali Ewoldt & More to Take Part in Prospect Theater Company's Spring Gala

Prospect Theater Company announced today that its annual Spring Gala will feature performances and special appearances by Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winner André De Shields; Ali Ewoldt (The Phantom of the Opera); Drama Desk Award winner Gretchen Cryer; Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee Nick Corley and more.

American Lyric Theater to Stage Three New One-Act Operas

American Lyric Theater (ALT) announced today InsightALT: Opera in Eden, a performance featuring three new one-act operas on themes of temptation developed by Resident Artists in the company’s nationally acclaimed Composer Librettist Development Program. ALT’s current Resident Artists (Composers Jasmine Barnes, Johanny Navarro, and Alex Weiser; and Librettists Joshua Banbury, Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, and Marcus Yi) were selected from over 200 applicants to join the CLDP this season. Opera in Eden, which is the culminating event of the first year of these artists’ residency, will take place at National Sawdust in Brooklyn on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 at 7:00pm.

Cannes Classics 2021 to Screen THE KILLING FLOOR

Based on actual events and characters, the film's story is told by Frank Custer (Damien Leake), a southern Black migrant working on the 'kill floor' of a giant World War One Chicago slaughterhouse under the command of Foreman Harry (Dennis Farina) and struggling to earn enough to bring his wife (Alfre Woodard) and children to more freedom up north.

Sundance Institute Announces 2021 Screenwriters Lab Fellows

Fifteen emerging storytellers from Chile, India, Kenya, Tunisia and the U.S. will convene digitally for Sundance Institute’s January Screenwriters Lab, taking place online via Sundance Co//ab from January 11 -15, 2021. The Fellows will work to further develop twelve original projects, in collaboration with an experienced group of Creative Advisors.

Israel Film Festival in LA Awards $190K for Audience Choice Awards

The  Audience Choice Awards of the 33rd ISRAEL FILM FESTIVAL in Los Angeles, the largest showcase of Israeli films in the United States, presented in a tie vote both Incitement, directed by Yaron Zilberman, Israel's Official Selection to the 2019 Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film and Forgiveness, directed by Guy Amir and Hanan Savyon, with the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film and Picture of his Life directed by Yonatan Nir and Dani Menkin with the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary Film at the November 26th Closing Ceremony. For the first time, the winning filmmakers received a combined value of $190,000 in post-production services for their next film, the largest amount ever awarded by the Festival, courtesy of sponsor partners DCR Finance Corp, Los Angeles and Go Media Productions, Atlanta, Georgia, and OPUS Post Production, Tel Aviv, announced Meir Fenigstein, founder and executive director of the Festival.

Sundance Institute Announces 2020 Momentum Fellows and Launch Grant Fund Recipients

Sundance Institute announced today two support tracks for artists from underrepresented communities, continuing the Institute's commitment to fostering inclusive artistic visions. Announced today are the eight members of the second class of the Momentum Fellowship, a full-year program of deep, customized creative and professional support for writers, directors, and producers from underrepresented communities who are poised to take the next step in their careers, working across documentary and feature filmmaking, and episodic content. Sundance Institute also announced the four awardees of the inaugural Launch Grant Fund, a new opportunity for emerging filmmakers from underrepresented communities launching their first feature film.

Woodstock Film Festival Announces 20th Anniversary Audience & Maverick Award Recipients

The 20th Anniversary Woodstock Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday with the Closing Night film Marriage Story, directed by Noah Baumbach. Audience ballots from more than 100 films were counted late Sunday night to determine the winners of the Audience Awards. Over the past week, thousands of film goers, industry and filmmakers from around the world attended screenings, panels, and special events in Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Rosendale, Kingston and Saugerties.

Sundance Institute Announces 2019 Directors & Screenwriters Lab Fellows

Filmmakers from the U.S., Lebanon, Palestine, and the United Kingdom have been selected for the 2019 Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs, taking place at the Sundance Mountain Resort in Utah. At the Directors Lab (May 27-June 18), filmmakers will rehearse, shoot, and edit key scenes from their scripts, working in an immersive, hands-on environment with support from accomplished advisors to build their craft as directors and make key discoveries in collaboration with their actors and key crew. Immediately following, the Screenwriters Lab (June 20-24) provides the opportunity to process the insight gained from the Directors Lab through one-on-one story sessions with screenwriter advisors, and find inspiration and guidance for continued development of their screenplays.

Kate Bornstein And Thomas Lax Amongst New Mentors For The 2019-2020 Queer|Art|Mentorship Program Cycle

Queer|Art, NYC's home for the creative and professional development of LGBTQ+ artists, is pleased to announce the new Mentors for the 2019-2020 program cycle of Queer|Art|Mentorship (QAM). Applications open May 12th.The Mentorship program is the cornerstone of Queer|Art's activity, providing a platform of support for LGBTQ+ artists focused on creative issues and long-term sustainability of artistic practice. Over the course of a year-long exchange, the program helps to forge new relationships between early-career and established LGBTQ+ artists and curators, bridging professional and social thresholds that often isolate artists by generation and discipline.

VR Series MECHANICAL SOULS Screens at SXSW 2019's Virtual Cinema Program

The pilot episode of Mechanical Souls, a multi-segmented narrative VR series which fuses high-cinema production with game-story technology will be screened at South by Southwest 2019 as part of the festival's Virtual Cinema Program. Currently a seven-part 360° stereoscopic experience directed by Gaëlle Mourre and written by Mourre and L.P. Lee, Mechanical Souls is presented by Digital Rise and Serendipity Films, in association with DVgroup, Google JUMP, S.G.O. and Kaohsiung VR Film Lab. As part of the Virtual Cinema exhibition, Mechanical Souls in nominated for awards in the categories of Best Film Poster, Best 360 Video, Best Interactive, Best Storytelling and Best Use of the Immersive Arts.
