Rooftop Films Announce 2018 Short Film Programs

Although the organization continues to grow, Rooftop Films will never stop supporting the work of up-and-coming short filmmakers. For this reason, they are excited to kick off their 2018 Summer Series with three programs of innovative and unorthodox short films from around the world. On Saturday, May 19, Rooftop will celebrate Opening Night in Green-Wood Cemetery with This is What We Mean by Short Films, a program that captures the adventurous spirit of the organization; on Friday, May 25 Rooftop will return to The Old American Can Factory in Gowanus for No Escape a selection of uncanny, disquieting mindbenders; and on Saturday, May 26 Rooftop will present its annual program of Dark Toons at Industry City.
Jerry Leiber And Mike Stoller To Be Inducted Into American Jazz Walk Of Fame On 6/2

Songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, composers of some of the greatest blues, jazz, R&B, and rock and roll hits of all time, will be inducted into the American Jazz Walk of Fame in Kansas City, MO on Saturday, June 2. Their names will be embedded in a bronze medallion on the sidewalk near the Jazz Museum.

Now in rehearsals, Steppenwolf Theatre Company is thrilled to present Guards at the Taj, a stunning tale about the search for beauty in desperate circumstances, written by acclaimed playwright Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo). As previously announced, ensemble member Amy Morton directs this Chicago premiere, featuring the original cast members, Omar Metwally (Humayun) and Arian Moayed (Babur), who were last seen on Steppenwolf's stage together in Homebody/Kabul. Morton directed the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway world premiere, which won the 2016 Obie Award for Best New American Play.

Local Philadelphia performance artists and musicians will join Mac in these final U.S. performances of the full, 24-hour-long pop odyssey, June 2 & 9 at the Kimmel Center's Merriam Theater, as part of the 2018 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). Mac will perform A 24-Decade History of Popular Music as two distinct 12-hour concerts, Saturday, June 2 (1776-1896) and Saturday, June 9 (1896-present day) - Mac's longest continuous performances since the work premiered at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn in 2016.
