Rooftop Films Announce 2018 Short Film Programs

Although the organization continues to grow, Rooftop Films will never stop supporting the work of up-and-coming short filmmakers. For this reason, they are excited to kick off their 2018 Summer Series with three programs of innovative and unorthodox short films from around the world. On Saturday, May 19, Rooftop will celebrate Opening Night in Green-Wood Cemetery with This is What We Mean by Short Films, a program that captures the adventurous spirit of the organization; on Friday, May 25 Rooftop will return to The Old American Can Factory in Gowanus for No Escape a selection of uncanny, disquieting mindbenders; and on Saturday, May 26 Rooftop will present its annual program of Dark Toons at Industry City.

Each event will feature live music beforehand and an after-party with Corona Extra, Freixenet, and drinks from Ketel One Family Made Vodka. For press passes, screener links, or more information please contact Guillermo Restrepo at Guillermo@BrigadeMarketing.com.

The 2018 Summer Series is presented by SUNDANCE TV and supported by Signature Sponsors Corona Extra, Freixenet, Ketel One Family Made Vodka, Lay's Poppables, and Mozilla.

THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN BY SHORT FILMS
@ Green-Wood Cemetery. 500 25th Street, Brooklyn. 11232

Rooftop launches the 22nd Summer Series at our newest venue, Green-Wood Cemetery, with a program of amazing new short films featuring singing fish in existential crises, graveyard reveries, neighborhoods mafias, ultraviolet scorpions, and the irresistible temptation of milk and cookies. These highly entertaining films tear apart tired old structures and display the creative potential of the cinematic form. Not to mention, we have the cutest dog in the world (really though).

7:45 PM: Doors Open
8:30 PM: Live Music by L'Rain
9:00 PM: Films Begin
10:30 PM: After-Party with Corona Extra, Freixenet, specialty drinks from Ketel One Family Owned Vodka, and Fever-Tree Tonic. Featuring a set from DJ Tara, courtesy of Lay's Poppables

Friday, May 25, 2018
NO ESCAPE: UNCANNY MINDBENDERS
@ The Old American Can Factory. 232 3rd Street, Brooklyn. 11215

It's time for our annual program of bizarre and disquieting short films. Among these films you'll find animated girls who lose things they can't remember; documentaries about the steely gaze and distant reserve of drone pilots; and tragic fantasies about a pigeon from the father of alternating current. These films ask: Have you ever stepped on an anthill and not given it a second thought? If a foley artist falls in the forest, who will record it? Is it a nervous breakdown or the best set of your life?

8:00 PM: Doors Open
8:30 PM: Live Music
9:00 PM: Films Begin
10:30 PM: After-Party with Corona Extra, specialty drinks from Ketel One Family Made Vodka, and Fever-Tree Tonic

Saturday, May 26, 2018
DARK TOONS
@ Industry City. 274 36 Street, Brooklyn. 11232

The furry critters and imaginative creatures of our annual Dark Toons program invite you to stare into the animated abyss for stories of uncanny family connections, a reinterpretation of Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delight, and surreal contemplations on human existence and our place in the universe. Far from fluffy, the toons feature rotoscope web cats, Wilhelm screams emitted from a school of fish stuck in a tree and psychedelic astronauts riding a giant space wolf. This year's collection of dark toons plunges the viewer into the intangible world BEYOND our 2D live-action reality.

8:00 PM: Doors Open
8:30 PM: Live Music
9:00 PM: Films Begin
10:30 PM: After-Party with Corona Extra, specialty drinks from Ketel ONe Family Made Vodka, and Fever-Tree Tonic
