Becky-June Beasley-Jones (played by the irreverent Butch Alice), the Jessica Fletcher of Café Nordo, a young girl who can't help but stumble into murder after murder (so much so that I'm not certain she's not perpetrating them) has returned to rock your holidays with a?oeThe Christmas Killings at Corgi Cliffsa??. In the latest crazed mystery from Scot Augustson and directed by Jasmine Joshua, Becky-June is on hand to find the killer and tickle your funny bone. And she does quite well, but this particular mystery felt a bit convoluted and long.
A really good Café Nordo show needs more than a good premise and good food. It needs a good script that really tells the story, complimenting the food, and a good pace. Their current incarnation, a?oeViolet's Attica??, has a wonderfully creepy premise which leads us into a fabulously whimsical meal. But the script and pace, while having some fantastic moments, suffer from too many long, drawn out sequences with little payoff.

Well I'm thrilled to tell you that they're back, this time tackling the a?oeRaiders of the Lost Arka?? movies (minus a?oeCrystal Skulla?? since that one was an abomination) and showing off how amazing they are at the lost art of satire with the brilliant a?oeIndy Jones and the Raiders of the Last Temple of the Doomed Arka??.

Ah, the restoration comedy. Those bawdy little comedies from the 1600's and 1700's with ill-mannered aristocrats being put through their paces. Now let's take one of those, spice it up with a bit of modern flair, pepper in some of the funniest damn people in town, and a hilariously ridiculous three person band with some original songs and what you'll have is the joyous, bound to go off the rails at any minute, high-speed train ride that is Seattle Shakespeare Company's current production of "She Stoops to Conquer".

This winter, Book-It Repertory Theatre and Caf Nordo pair up once again for a theatrical culinary collaboration. After a resounding success with A Moveable Feastlast year, both companies are elated to bring audiences a sexy, shadowy evening of mystery with Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon. A multi-course meal will deliciously underscore a signature Book-It theatrical experience.
Dear Readers, it's been quite a year and, hopefully, we've come through it unscathed. God knows we've needed some shows to help us escape and others to make us think. But through it all we've had several shows that have proven to shine as some of the best of the year. Out of all the shows I was fortunate enough to see this year, I've selected a few that stood out. Here are those stand outs, a few honorable mentions and a few special mentions about which I just couldn't help myself but to mention in their own special way.

And I thought last year's offering from Caf Nordo and Scot Sgt. Rigsby Auguston was crazy. But Auguston has amped the wacky fun up to 12 now with their latest incarnation The View from Santa's Lap complete with delicious food, shadow puppet mermaids, and (dum dum dum) MURDER!
When today's headlines about Russia involve potential political meddling, corruption, and cover-up, it's nice to know that some things don't change and that you can laugh about them.
The intensely immersive experience of dining at ONERUS is perfect for fans who love and respect well-written sci-fi. Directed by Opal Peachey, this thoughtful, thought-provoking cautionary tale is science fiction at its finest (and the food ain't half bad either).
