Red Bull to Stage New Version of Nikolai Erdman's THE MANDATE Next Monday

Red Bull Theater today announced the cast for their next Revelation Reading on Monday May 1st (7:30pm) at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street): the New York Premiere of Nikolai Erdman's The Mandate in a new version by Declan Donnellan (Cheek-by-Jowl), directed by Ethan McSweeny.

Michael Kahn to Retire as Artistic Director of Shakespeare Theatre Company

Michael Kahn will retire as artistic director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) in July 2019. A national search for Mr. Kahn's successor will begin in 2017. His successor will be announced in July 2018 and will work closely with Michael to plan the 2019/20 season.

Acclaimed actress Glenn Close has headed back to Broadway to play the iconic role of faded Hollywood star Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Sunset Boulevard, which won her a Tony in 1995. Kicking off its 30th Anniversary Season, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) will present William Shakespeare's The Tempest as the 2016 Free For All event. Directed by STC favorite and internationally-acclaimed director, Ethan McSweeny, The Tempest will feature STC Affiliated Artist and Broadway veteran Patrick Page as Prospero. STC to Bring 'MIDSUMMER' to China

Following the Free For All 25th Anniversary performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Ethan McSweeny, the Shakespeare Theatre Company's (STC) production will travel to Macao, China, to perform this striking rendition of Shakespeare's iconic comedy at the 27th annual celebration of the Macao Arts Festival (MAF), which begins April 30 and lasts until May 29. In commemoration of the 400th anniversaries of William Shakespeare's and famed Chinese playwright Tan Xianzu's deaths, the MAF will present shows in tribute to these two virtuosos, including STC's A Midsummer Night's Dream. McSweeny's production will kick off the festival with performances on April 30 and May 1, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.

Emery Battis Award Recipients Announced

Iman and Pedlow were chosen for their 2014-2015 Mainstage Season performances as the beleaguered serving wench Aldonza in Man of La Mancha and the poetry-obsessed Lucille in The Metromaniacs, respectively. The awards were presented on October 13, 2015, at the Opening Night dinner for the first show of STC's new Mainstage Season, Salome, hosted by the Board of Trustees. Iman and Pedlow each received a $5,000 cash prize made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor, along with a crystal sculpture commemorating their achievement.
