Public Theater Begins THE GOOD NEGRO Previews 3/3

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) will begin previews on Tuesday, March 3 for Tracey Scott Wilson's THE GOOD NEGRO, which will run through Sunday, April 19 with an official press opening on Monday, March 16. Directed by Liesl Tommy and presented in association with Dallas Theater Center, THE GOOD NEGRO is the first new play to transfer from the Public LAB initiative to a full main stage production at The Public.

THE TRIAL OF THE CATONSVILLE NINE Opens 2/14-3/21

On May 17th, 1968, two Catholic priests, and seven Catholic activists including a nurse, a nun, an artist and four others all walked into the selective service office Local Board 33, located in the Knights of Columbus building in Catonsville, Maryland, grabbed hundreds of 1-A draft files and burned them with homemade napalm in protest against U.S. involvement in Vietnam. The publicity and news coverage from the ensuing trial was instrumental in galvanizing the American anti-war movement. The Actors' Gang presents The Trial of the Catonsville Nine, Daniel Berrigan's free-verse dramatization based on the actual records of the trial in which he and eight other defendants were convicted. The Trial of the Catonsville Nine opens on Saturday, February 14 with performances continuing through March 21. Low-priced previews begin February 5.

Due to strong demand, The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that it would extend Tracey Scott Wilson?s THE GOOD NEGRO an additional two weeks through Sunday, April 19. THE GOOD NEGRO begins previews on Tuesday, March 3 and will now run through Sunday, April 19 with an official press opening on Monday, March 16. Directed by Liesl Tommy and in association with Dallas Theater Center, THE GOOD NEGRO is the first new play to transfer from the Public LAB initiative to a full main stage production at The Public.

LIBERTY CITY will make its Miami premiere on the crest of its New York success where Thompson was nominated for Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Solo Performance. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for Tracey Scott Wilson's THE GOOD NEGRO, which runs Tuesday, March 3 to Sunday, April 5 with an official press opening on Monday, March 16. Directed by Liesl Tommy and in association with Dallas Theater Center, THE GOOD NEGRO is the first new play to transfer from the Public LAB initiative to a full main stage production at The Public. The cast for THE GOOD NEGRO will feature Joniece Abbott-Pratt (Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?), Francois Battiste (Prelude to a Kiss on Broadway), J. Bernard Calloway ('Rescue Me'), Quincy Dunn-Baker (Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare in the Park), Erik Jensen (Spain at MCC), LeRoy McClain (Cymbeline at Lincoln Center), Curtis McClarin (King Hedley II at Signature), Rachel Nicks (Life Support) and Brian Wallace (A Christmas Carol at Trinity Rep).

Performances take place Saturday, December 6 through January 10 at The Actors' Gang in the Ivy Substation at 9070 Venice Blvd. in downtown Culver City.

Wilma Theater Presents SCHMUCKS, A Fictitious Metting Between Marx and Bruce

The Wilma Theater continues its 30th Anniversary Season with the U.S. Premiere of Schmucks, directed by the Wilma's co-Artistic Director Jiri Zizka. A comic fantasy by Roy Smiles -who returns to the Wilma for a second consecutive season - Schmucks is a tale of a fictitious meeting between two comic icons, Groucho Marx and Lenny Bruce.

Stew, Parisse, Ikeda and Others To Join SPF Festival

The Summer Play Festival announces casting for the eagerly anticipated Summer Play Festival (SPF) now celebrating its fifth season in New York. Casts include Annie Golden, former lead singer for 'The Shirts' who has appeared in the movie HAIR; Marin Hinkle from CBS' TWO AND A HALF MEN; Annie Parisse from NBC's LAW & ORDER; Jenny Ikeda from MTC's acclaimed production of TOP GIRLS; and Dan Lauria from the long running series THE WONDER YEARS. Singer, songwriter and Tony Award winning Stew from the musical PASSING STRANGE will also be writing new music for one of the plays.

Cannavale, Reuben, Sunjata Join Celeb Line-Up for 'At War' Off-Bway

The Fire Dept will present an expanded and updated version of its acclaimed At War: American Playwrights Respond to Iraq, an evening of alternately moving, haunting, and funny material by noted and emerging American playwrights, woven together to present a kaleidoscope of views on the war. Featuring a rotating repertory of celebrity hosts and guest performers including Bebe Neuwirth, Josh Hamilton, Bobby Cannavale, Derek Phillips, Daniel Sunjata and Fire Dept company members David Strathairn, Janeane Garofalo, Gloria Reuben and Tony Award winner Denis O'Hare.

'Liberty City' by Blank & Thompson Debuts at NYTW Feb.15

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) presents 'Liberty City,' written by Jessica Blank and April Yvette Thompson, performed by Thompson, and directed by Blank; to begin performances Friday, February 15, at NYTW. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4 at 7PM. The production will run through Sunday, March 16.
