TADA! Youth Theater will present Golly Gee Whiz! this summer. A tribute to the classic Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland film musicals of the 1930s and 40s, Golly Gee Whiz! takes place in an American town, Happyville, during the Great Depression. Happyville's residents are unmotivated and bored. Eager to make a change, a group of local children band together with the help of Mickey and Judy to put on a great show and re-establish Happyville as the bustling, optimistic town that it once was. Golly Gee Whiz! is a musical about the power and influence that young children can have even in times of hardship.

"A GIFT FROM THE MUSICAL THEATER GODS!"-Talkin' Broadway. The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, has announced today a special gala celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Off-Broadway hit The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) with music by Eric Rockwell, lyrics by Joanne Bogart, and book by Eric Rockwell and Joanne Bogart.

Musical theatre lovers, rejoice! The Musical of Musicals-the Musical! has returned to Sacramento and promises an evening of melodrama, satire, and comedy. Composed by the co-creator of last season's The Donner Party, Eric Rockwell, with lyrics by Joanne Bogart, the show parodies some of Broadway's greatest composers while paying homage to their brilliance.

The Unframed at New Stage Theatre Series presents Building the Wall, the newest play by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan (The Kentucky Cycle, All the Way, Hacksaw Ridge) November 10, 11, 12 18, & 19 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket price is $10.00 and tickets can only be purchased at the door, cash or check only. The performances are staged at New Stage Theatre's Warehouse Theatre, which is located at 1000 Monroe Street in the Belhaven Heights neighborhood. Unframed at New Stage Theatre is sponsored by Jackson Free Press. Building the Wall contains strong language and is recommended for mature audiences only.

Feinstein's/54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Samantha Spade, Ace Detective, a film-noir-detective-story-musical (in black and white), on April 25, 2017 at 7:00pm. Originally written for young people to perform at TADA! Growing up in Northern California, it is impossible not to hear about the Donner Party, the group of 87 pioneers who tried to cross the Sierra Nevada mountains in the winter of 1846. Unfortunately, the name has become synonymous with cannibalism. After being trapped in an early winter storm at Truckee (now Donner) Lake, members of the party were forced to eat their dead in order to survive. In the horror that the imagery generates, it is difficult to remember that these were very real, living, breathing people who had dreams of providing a better life for themselves and their families. The Donner Party, A New American Musical, tells the story of 16 of those pioneers. Commissioned by Sacramento Theatre Company and written by Margaret Rose with music by Eric Rockwell, this is the musical's world premiere right here in Sacramento.

Stage Rights announced this week that Acappella is the recipient of the 2015 Stage Rights/NYMF Publishing Award. Roger Bean, President and Founder of Stage Rights, presented the award to book writer Vynnie Meli, who accepted on behalf of the entire Acappella team. Stage Rights and The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) created the publishing award in 2013, and it is presented annually to one or more of the musicals taking part in the festival. Performance rights for Acappella will be available through Stage Rights in spring 2016.
