On January 25th at 9:30pm, Cutting-Edge Composers will present their sixth concert at 54 Below! Cutting-Edge Composers is a platform for new musical theatre writers featuring Broadway's top performers and musicians.
On Monday, August 11, Billy Stritch and Jim Caruso took to the Birdland stage for the first time. OK, not exactly. They've been hosting Cast Party in the historic music room every week for eleven years - but this was the swinging duo's first time to be booked in concert! Thanks to their faithful Cast Party following, and the fact that Jim has been booking the Broadway at Birdland concert series for a decade, the room was packed with friends, fans and fellow performers. Caruso and Stritch were joined by Steve Doyle on bass, and jazz vocalist superstar Jane Monheit made a surprise musical cameo. Scroll down for photos!
At Birdland this past week, Jim Caruso's Cast Party was a jam-packed, sold-out crazy-quilt of talent. The weekly 'extreme' open mic night was the place to hear Broadway tunes, jazz standards, an Italian pop tune, a Beyonce hit, the blues, and a few original tunes that defied description. On Monday, October 29, Jim Caruso's Cast Party, Birdland's 'extreme' open mic, was proud to present a new monthly segment called MENTOR MONDAYS, which pairs up-and-coming singers and composers with established artists to create a featured performance for the historic Birdland stage. For the premiere segment, producer Trevor McQueen paired composer Eric Dietz, a recent Carnegie Mellon University graduate with one of the current stars of Big Fish, Kirsten Scott.
