Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) continues its 2013-14 Target Storybook Series with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's A Brown Bear, a Moon, and a Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2pm. After much demand, that little caterpillar is returning to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, along with an assortment of favorite puppet characters. Young children ages 3 - 7 will be awed and amazed by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's lively, family friendly production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Stories today, December 3 and Wednesday, December 4 at 12:30pm.

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College announces its 59th season of diverse, family friendly theater and musical theater performances, including the Off-Broadway holiday hit My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm Home for the Holidays, the acclaimed Golden Dragon Acrobats performing their theatrical spectacle Cirque Ziva, and five theater performances for children as part of Brooklyn Center's Target Storybook Series.

All tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling Cheryl Wheeler at 631-288-2350 ext 102. The triple-bill runs for about 45 minutes and includes the wonderful story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar's metamorphosis, the fanciful account of Little Cloud's travels, and The Mixed -Up Chameleon's discovery of his own unique nature.

The Kennedy Center presents the world premiere production of Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play! in the Family Theater from November 23 to December 31, 2013. Commissioned by the Kennedy Center, the play is written by six-time Emmy Award-winner and popular children's book author Mo Willems and directed by Jerry Whiddon, with music by Deborah Wicks La Puma. The production features a live, four-piece band on stage. Press opening performance is Saturday, November 23 at 4pm. The performance on Saturday, December 28 at 11am is sensory-friendly. Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play! is recommended for ages 4 and up.

The centerpiece of Brooklyn Center's 2013-2014 family programming will be theTarget Storybook Series of performances based on classic and contemporary children's literature, with titles including The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle; Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day; A Brown Bear, a Moon, and a Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle; andThe Wizard of Oz. The series aims to encourage the development of strong reading skills at home in children ages four to eight. Online resources such as literacy-based activity sheets and Parents' Guides will give parents the opportunity to engage their children prior to attending the performances, and then again after seeing each show.
