Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) continues its 2013-14 Target Storybook Series with Theatreworks USA's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day onSunday, January 12, 2014 at 2pm. All tickets are $7 and can be purchased by phone at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm), or online at BrooklynCenterOnline.org. The performance is recommended for ages four and up.

Have you ever had a really rotten day? Alexander has. There's no dessert for lunch, there's lima beans for dinner, and worst of all, there's kissing on television. It's enough to make you want to move to Australia! Laugh and sing along with Alexander's misadventures in this hilarious musical, featuring book and lyrics by Judith Viorst, author of the best-selling classic book.

The mission of Theatreworks USA is to create, produce, and provide access to professional theater for young and family audiences nationwide, including disadvantaged youth and under-served communities. Since their founding in 1961, they have presented more than 90 million children and their families with opportunities to enjoy their theatrical productions in 49 states and Canada. Each season, three million children, many of whom have no other access to the performing arts, attend their original productions in venues as varied as local elementary school gymnasiums, regional fine arts centers, and major Broadway-sized theatres. Theatreworks USA tours approximately 16 shows each season from their repertoire of 133 plays and musicals.

The centerpiece of BCBC's 2013-14 family programming, the Target Storybook Series features performances based on classic and contemporary children's literature and aims to encourage the development of strong reading skills at home in children ages four to eight. Each performance is accompanied by a Parents' Guide, with literacy-based activity sheets, reading tips, and discussion topics, giving parents the opportunity to engage their children both pre- and post-performance.

Other titles in the 2013-14 Target Storybook Series include Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's A Brown Bear, a Moon, and a Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle; Jim Henson's Sid The Science Kid: Live!; and American Family Theater's The Wizard of Oz. All seats for BCBC's 2013-14 Target Storybook Series are $7-$10. Parents' Guides can be downloaded at www.BrooklynCenterOnline.org/Target_Storybook.asp.

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts' 2013-14 Target Storybook Series is sponsored by Target.
