Sharon Playhouse Sets Star-Studded Casts for 2017 Summer Season

Sharon Playhouse has announced complete casting for its 2017 Season. The season kicks off with MINOR CHARACTER: SIX TRANSLATIONS OF UNCLE VANYA, created by New Saloon (Morgan Green, Madeline Wise, and Milo Cramer), followed by FAR AWAY by Caryl Churchill (Love and Information). The season will conclude with a new, intimate chamber production of Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN. In a shift that begins this season, Morgan Green (William Shakespeare's Mom) will direct all three productions, showcasing the talents and range of the rising director.

Every year, the holiday season is marked by gooey, theatrical mind-candy confections. The syrupy and saccharine spectacles fill audiences with joy and boil pots all over town. Yet, for 2013 Main Street Theater is taking a bold risk and producing the brilliantly crafted and deeply moving Houston Premiere of A CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS: AN AMERICAN MUSICAL CELEBRATION by Paula Vogel, with music by Daryl Waters. The play is not the light-hearted, feel-good fare audiences have come to expect; however, I defy anyone to walk away from a performance without feeling moved and permanently altered.

Cori Thomas Wins M. Elizabeth Osborn New Play Award for WHEN JANUARY FEELS LIKE SUMMER

Cori Thomas has won ATCA's 2011 M. Elizabeth Osborn New Play Award for an emerging playwright. The award recognizes Thomas' When January Feels Like Summer, which premiered in March 2010 at City Theatre in Pittsburgh. The Osborn Award is designed to recognize the work of an author who has not yet achieved national stature - e.g., has not had a significant New York production or been staged widely in regional theaters. Last year's award went to Jason Wells for Perfect Mendacity; previous winners included Rebecca Gilman and Keith Glover. The 2011 award will be presented April 2 at the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville.
