Review - Vita & Virginia: Mad About The Girl

It took barely a sip of post-theatre cocktail for one of my companions to breathe a mournful sigh in memory of the lost art of letter writing. I imagine this was not the first time such sentiments were expressed following a performance of Vita & Virginia, Eileen Atkins' cerebrally romantic stage piece crafted from nearly 20 years of correspondence between the celebrated Virginia Woolf the her less-remembered fellow Bloomsburyist Vita Sackville-West which began scantly after their first introduction in 1922.

This morning, July 17th 2008 the nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced by Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 13th at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The No Frills Company's acclaimed production of 'VITA & VIRGINIA', starring KATHLEEN CHALFANT (WIT, ANGELS IN AMERICA) and PATRICIA ELLIOTT (One Life to Live, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, THE SHADOW BOX) will end its limited engagement at The Zipper Factory Theater, 336 West 37th Street, on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 7 PM. 2008 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize Awarded to Judith Thompson for "Palace of the End"

The 2008 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to Judith Thompson for her critically acclaimed play Palace of the End, marking the first time a Canadian writer has received the prestigious playwriting award's highest honor. Thompson received $20,000 and a signed and numbered print by artist Willem de Kooning at a special 30th Anniversary ceremony on Monday, March 10th at the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas where Ms. Blackburn first became involved in theatre.

Eileen Atkins and David Haig will lead the cast in Edward Bond's black and riotous comedy, The Sea, the second production in Jonathan Kent's Haymarket Season. The Sea will run from January 17 -April 19 with press night on January 23, 2008. Designs are by Paul Brown, with lighting by Mark Henderson and sound by Paul Groothuis - Kent's long term and regular collaborators who join him for the season.
